US filmmaker Richard Linklater<\/a> said he isa third of the way through filminghis adaptation of the Broadway musical Merrily We Roll Along<\/a> starring Paul Mescal<\/a>, which is being shot over 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe film comprises nine sections over 20 years, [shot in real time], and we\u2019ve filmed three of them,\u201d said Linklater during an on-stage talk at the BFI London Film Festival (Lff) last week.<\/p>\n

The director referred to his 2014 film Boyhood<\/a>, shot over 12 years and starring Ethan Hawke<\/a> and Patricia Arquette<\/a>, as \u201cproof of concept\u201d for his ambitious musical adaptation, with a cast including Ben Platt<\/a> and Beanie Feldstein<\/a>.<\/p>\n
