Jonathan Cain<\/a> is calling it quits with Journey. Eventually. <\/p>\n On an Oct. 17 episode of \u201cNashville\u2019s Morning News\u201d with Dan Mandis, <\/a>the keyboard player confirmed that he plans to retire from the band, although not as soon as initially reported. <\/a><\/p>\n Referencing recent reports, Cain, 75, said, \u201cWell, that was kind of misinformation. What was really said … was that I was gonna do these next two tours and just kind of wrap it up. \u2018Cause I felt like I didn\u2019t wanna die on the road in my sleep at 80 years old, like John Lodge did,<\/a> of The Moody Blues. … But it just feels like a good time to enjoy my grandkids and my family. I\u2019ve given a lot. I\u2019ve given enough.\u201d<\/p>\n Lodge\u2019s death was announced <\/a>last week. He was 82. <\/p>\n \u201cI would never, ever duck out on my fans without saying goodbye, because I\u2019m grateful for them and I always, always planned on doing one last hurrah,\u201d Cain said. \u201cSo this is gonna be it for me.\u201d<\/p>\n Cain then said that his retirement will likely be in two years time and that he plans to continue touring with Journey in the meantime.<\/p>\n Confusion about Cain\u2019s status in the band spread on Oct. 10 when Journey guitarist Neil Schon wrote on X <\/a>that Cain intends to leave the band.<\/p>\n \u201cJonathan Cain announced his farewell to Journey tonight,\u201d Schon wrote. \u201cI\u2019m nowhere near done! Journey has so much more life ahead! I\u2019m sure we will have a great tour!\u201d<\/p>\n In a response to a fan who said Cain\u2019s exit was \u201ca sad day,\u201d Schon replied, \u201cHe wants to do his ministry.\u201d<\/p>\n A spokesperson for Cain later released a statement saying Schon\u2019s post was misleading. <\/p>\n \u201cJonathan Cain remains an active member of Journey, and any reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate,\u201d the statement said. \u201cHe is fully dedicated to touring with the band over the next couple of years and has only expressed plans to retire at a later time.\u201d<\/p>\n Journey has not yet announced any tour dates for 2026 or 2027. <\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
