The Cowardly Lion is off to see the wizard! Colman Domingo, that is. The Oscar nominee has joined the cast of Wicked: For Good <\/em>as the Cowardly Lion. The news was announced on Monday in a <\/a> shared by Domingo and the movie\u2019s official account.<\/p>\n In the video, Domingo hides behind a stuffed lion and then reveals his face.<\/p>\n \u201cSee you in Oz!\u201d the Oscar-nominated actor says, before winking at the camera.<\/p>\n News of Domingo joining the cast comes after filmmaker Jon M. Chu, the director of both Wicked <\/em>and Wicked: For Good<\/em>, teased the attachment of an A-list actor for the role. Chu <\/a> that he reached out to the star he wanted to voice the Cowardly Lion \u2014 now revealed to be Domingo \u2014 via direct message on Instagram.<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018It\u2019s not a ton of lines, but maybe you have a little time. I know you\u2019re busy. I\u2019ll come to you.\u2019 He was like, \u2018Why the f**k not, let\u2019s go!\u2019 And then we went ahead and recorded the lines,\u201d Chu told the outlet, before adding, \u201cMan, wait until the red carpet when the actor who gave us the Cowardly Lion\u2019s voice steps foot on it. It\u2019ll be wild.\u201d<\/p>\n In Wicked<\/em>, Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo) and Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) rescue the Cowardly Lion as a young cub, after Dr. Dillamond is apprehended and a new professor brings a caged lion into class. The professor speaks of how, by caging the animal, it\u2019ll never learn to speak \u2014 which is the ultimate goal. Elphaba, angered by these remarks, uses her powers to generate a moment where she and Fiyero can grab the cub, run into the forest and set him free.<\/p>\n Wicked: For Good <\/em>sees the Cowardly Lion all grown up. Now older, he blames Elphaba for his scared, gutless nature.<\/p>\n
