Jennifer Aniston\u2019s<\/a> role as Jenette McCurdy\u2019s mom in the upcoming TV adaptation of her best-selling memoir I\u2019m Glad My Mom\u2019s Dead<\/em> may seem like a tough role to dig into considering what the former child actress revealed about their relationship, but the Friends<\/em> star says that\u2019s far from the truth. Aniston recently opened up about why she is able to relate to the role ahead of filming.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a lot in common,\u201d Aniston told PEOPLE<\/em><\/a>. \u201cWe had very similar moms.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen it came across my desk as an option, an offer to play this character and work with Jennette and Sharon Horgan and LuckyChap, I was pretty much immediately intrigued and flattered and excited,\u201d Aniston added\u201dIt\u2019s going to be wonderful. It\u2019s going to be pretty great to start shooting it.\u201d Aniston also praises the memoir as \u201cso beautifully written,\u201d and says McCurdy \u201cis so special.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that she\u2019s the young woman that she is, having lived that life, is nothing short of remarkable,\u201d Aniston says during a conversation about her latest campaign with Pvolve to launch the Longevity Bundle.<\/p>\n

McCurdy\u2019s mom, Debra, died in 2013, and in the memoir, she alleged that Debra had forced her into acting, accusing her of various abusive acts and claiming her mother led her to develop an eating disorder and allowed her to be exploited during her career as a young actor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Aniston spoke about her own estranged and complicated relationship with mother, Nancy Dow, who died in 2016. \u201cShe was a model and she was all about presentation and what she looked like and what I looked like. I did not come out the model child she\u2019d hoped for,\u201d she told The Sunday Telegraph<\/em> in 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Aniston has also said that she grew up in a \u201chousehold that was destabilized and felt unsafe,\u201d and called her mom, who divorced \u201ccritical,\u201d saying, \u201cShe was very critical of me. Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn\u2019t. I never was,\u201d she told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI honestly still don\u2019t think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
