\n \u201cBack in the day, five years ago when I was having to bring all my needles and all that to test my glucose, I would always leave it at home,\u201d he recalled. \u201cAlways. I would always leave something.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Now he doesn\u2019t have to worry, and he can better tell what spikes his blood sugar after he eats, and what doesn\u2019t.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cThere\u2019s definitely certain foods that my body does not take well to that I guess some other diabetics can easily digest. For me it is the white foods,\u201d Bass said. \u201cWhite rice, white bread, those are the culprits for me.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cAnd it doesn\u2019t matter how much insulin I give myself, that thing is gonna break through,\u201d he added. \u201cEven if I have just one little spoonful of white rice, it is going to spike to 400. So that is a no go.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n His uncle had type 1 diabetes, and growing up Bass remembers being aware that his relative had to eat sugar-free. These days he said he\u2019s grateful for the advancements that make life easier for those who are diabetic.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cIt makes it so much easier to deal with,\u201d he said of the new monitoring technology. \u201cThat and meeting this (diabetic) community, it\u2019s been incredible because with the support that you give each other.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Stress also affects his blood sugar, and that can be hard not to have given his busy career balanced with raising his four-year-old twins Violet and Alexander with husband Michael Turchin.\n <\/p>\n
\n But might Bass be even busier with something like, say, a reunion tour with one of the most beloved boy bands of all time?\n <\/p>\n
\n All he will say is don\u2019t believe everything you read.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cI\u2019ve been seeing some recent articles, and I can just say they don\u2019t really know what they\u2019re talking about,\u201d Bass said, laughing.\n <\/p>\n
