Hope you\u2019re not in too much of a hurry to see them,\u00a0but the good news has dropped: Rush has added Rogers Place in Edmonton to its re-integration Fifty Something tour \u2014\u00a0Dec. 10, 2026!<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been over 10 years since Alex and I have performed the music of Rush alongside our fallen bandmate and friend Neil,\u201d says Geddy Lee of the tour and 17 additional dates, of which Edmonton is the last booked so far. \u201cA lifetime\u2019s worth of songs that we had put our cumulative hearts and souls into writing, recording and playing together onstage.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd so, after all that has gone down since that last show,\u201d says Lee, \u201cAlex and I have done some serious soul searching and come to the decision that we fucking miss it, and that it\u2019s time for a celebration of 50-something years of Rush music.\u201d<\/p>\n
Powerhouse technical drummer Anika Nilles will be stepping up into what Lee calls \u201cthat near impossible role,\u201d the German composer having previously toured with Jeff Beck, as well as putting our four studio albums of her own.<\/p>\n
Longtime drummer Peart \u2014\u00a0aka the Professor and the band\u2019s primary lyricist \u2014\u00a0started describing himself as a \u201cretired drummer\u201d in 2015, dying of brain cancer Jan. 7, 2020 to a flood of tributes from every corner of the entire music planet.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore we hit the stage,\u201d Lee adds, \u201cwe also hope to add another musician or two to expand our sound a wee bit and free up Alex and I, in order to show off some of our new fancy dance steps.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Toronto rock band carved out a unique place in musical history with its thoughtful, proggy, story-driven lyrics and starting with Fly By Night in \u201975, an unmistakeable, inventive sound you could identify from space.<\/p>\n
Tom Sawyer, Closer to the Heart, The Trees, Working Man, Big Money, Xanadu and my personal favourite Subdivisions, are all weirdly different rockers and it\u2019ll be exciting to see what the band pulls out for the show in a year plus from a selection of 35 songs.<\/p>\n
