One of Yungblud\u2019s<\/a> most formative musical memories was the white lie his grandma told him that his estranged grandfather was none other than Rod Stewart. He\u2019s shared this tall tale in a variety of interviews over the years \u2014 including a 2019 Rolling Stone profile<\/a> \u2014 but in his most recent telling, Yungblud revealed that Stewart himself is aware of the story.<\/p>\n During an interview<\/a> on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, Yungblud once again recounted how his maternal grandmother \u2014 who raised Yunglud\u2019s mom as a single mother \u2014 brought him up believing that Stewart was his grandpa. The illusion finally broke when Yungblud was about nine years old, when he was at a store with his grandmother and picked up a Stewart CD by the checkout counter.<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n He recalled: \u201cIt was like proper quivering lip, like, \u2018Nan, when\u2019s granddad coming home?\u2019 And everyone at the checkout started laughing at us, knowing that they caught my grandmother in a blatant lie. And that was the day I found out Rod Stewart was not in fact my grandfather.\u201d<\/p>\n After joking that he hadn\u2019t bothered to do a DNA test just in case, Yungblud did reveal that Stewart once sent him a message on Instagram that read simply, \u201cAll right, me wee grandson.\u201d<\/p>\n Laughing, Yungblud said, \u201cI was like, \u2018Rod Stewart man, he\u2019s got the banter!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Yungblud is currently touring Europe in support of his most recent album, Idols<\/a>, which was released in June. He has a handful of North American shows scheduled for late November, but a more lengthy run<\/a> is on the docket for next year.
