{"id":2106327,"date":"2025-10-21T18:39:17","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T18:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2106327"},"modified":"2025-10-21T18:39:17","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T18:39:17","slug":"new-films-from-mike-mills-eva-longoria-the-daniels-among-movies-getting-californias-new-tax-credits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/new-films-from-mike-mills-eva-longoria-the-daniels-among-movies-getting-californias-new-tax-credits\/","title":{"rendered":"New Films from Mike Mills, Eva Longoria, the Daniels Among Movies Getting California\u2019s New Tax Credits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-article-body=\"true\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That $750 million California approved to get productions back to the Golden State is starting to pay off. 52 different film projects were selected to receive tax credits under California\u2019s Film and Television Tax Credit Program, Governor Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Among the projects that will shoot here, a variety: a third \u201cJumanji\u201d movie, Michael Mann\u2019s \u201cHeat 2,\u201d the new film from the Daniels that just got dated for release in November 2027, a film titled \u201cThe Fifth Wheel\u201d starring Kim Kardashian and directed by Eva Longoria for Netflix, and a new Blumhouse movie called \u201cSunday\u201d based on the book.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>More from IndieWire<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On the indie side, there\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/criticism\/movies\/palm-springs-review-andy-samberg-sundance-1202206545\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:\u201cPalm Springs\u201d director Max Barbakow;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">\u201cPalm Springs\u201d director Max Barbakow<\/a>\u2018s new film \u201cEpiphany\u201d starring Bill Murray and Kristen Wiig, \u201cThe Incredible Heist of Hallelujah Jones,\u201d which stars Janelle Mon\u00e1e and has Taika Waititi and Ishi Metkar with Waititi Productions as well as Mon\u00e1e and Maresa Pullman with Wondaland Pictures producing, \u201cA Tree Is Blue\u201d produced by Dakota Johnson, and the Mila Kunis-produced film \u201cNightwatching.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And there\u2019s always a few hidden gems among these announcements, and of the 52 films, there\u2019s also a new untitled Mike Mills movie, which would be the first movie he\u2019s directed <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/criticism\/movies\/cmon-cmon-review-1234661731\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:since 2021\u2019s \u201cC\u2019mon C\u2019mon,\u201d;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">since 2021\u2019s \u201cC\u2019mon C\u2019mon,\u201d<\/a> and a comedy starring Jessica Williams and Jake Johnson that\u2019s also untitled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If and when all these projects do roll cameras, they are projected to bring $1.4 billion into the state\u2019s economy and employ roughly 8,900 cast and crew along with 46,400 background performers as measured in days work over a total 1,664 filming days. The California Film Commission says this is double what the last round \u2014 before the tax credits were upped to $750 million \u2014 managed to generate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe film and television industry is the cornerstone of California\u2019s creative economy \u2014 revitalizing the job opportunities, business growth and economic prosperity for families. These investments reaffirm that California isn\u2019t just where stories are told, it\u2019s where the future of storytelling is built,\u201d Governor Newsom said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThis round of awards demonstrates the outstanding scope of our program. We are welcoming projects from major franchises to independent films led by visionary artists,\u201d said Colleen Bell, Director California Film Commission. \u201cThere\u2019s real momentum building. With 52 new projects, we\u2019re seeing storytelling thrive once again, creating thousands of jobs and supporting local businesses in communities across the state.
