Two decades after co-founding the Dodos<\/a> with drummer Logan Kroeber, singer and guitarist Meric Long<\/a> will release his first solo album under his own name. The record, Kablooey<\/em><\/a>, is out this Friday, October 24, via Polyvinyl<\/a>. Below, listen to the new album\u2019s lead single, \u201cA Small Act of Defiance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Long worked on Kablooey<\/em> in between shifts as an in-house engineer at John Vanderslice<\/a>\u2019s Oakland, California, recording studio, Tiny Telephone<\/a>. \u201cThis album was really meant to be fun and not too purposeful,\u201d Long shared. \u201cI put a lot into it as one would expect, but I really just wanted to make something that was fun and allowed me to follow my more \u2018amped-up kid in a candy store\u2019 impulses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kablooey<\/em> follows the Dodos\u2019 2021 album, Grizzly Peak<\/em><\/a>. It also follows Long\u2019s true solo debut, a 2018 album called Barton\u2019s Den<\/em><\/a> that he released under the moniker Fan<\/a>.<\/p>\n
