Rod Stewart<\/a> has a few grandchildren, but YUNGBLUD<\/a> isn\u2019t one of them (despite what the punk rocker used to think).<\/p>\n While guesting on Capital FM on Tuesday (Oct. 21), YUNGBLUD opened up about how he mistakenly believed that the iconic singer-songwriter was his grandfather for about a decade. \u201cSo, basically, my mum never had a dad,\u201d he said on the radio program. \u201cMy nan was always a very imaginative lady, and my nan would lie to me.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019d put me in a foot bath and lie to me and say that Rod Stewart was my grandfather for, like, my formative years,\u201d YUNGBLUD continued, laughing. \u201cSo up to about 9 years old, I thought Rod Stewart was my grandad.\u201d<\/p>\n It wasn\u2019t until he and his grandmother were out grocery shopping one day that he finally learned the truth. \u201cI remember by the checkout, I picked up a Rod Stewart CD,\u201d YUNGBLUD recalled. \u201c[I was], like, proper quivering lip, like, \u2018Nan, when\u2019s granddad coming home?\u2019 And everyone at the checkout started laughing \u2026 And that was the day I found out Rod Stewart was not in fact my grandfather.\u201d<\/p>\n But while there\u2019s no \u201cblud\u201d relation between YUNGBLUD and Stewart, it sounds like the latter is down to welcome the former into the family. According to the \u201cParents\u201d musician, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer sent him a sweet DM after finding out about the childhood delusion.<\/p>\n \u201cHe says, \u2018Alright my wee grandson!\u2019\u201d YUNGBLUD said of the exchange. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018Rod Stewart, man.’\u201d<\/p>\n The interview comes about a month after the release of YUNGBLUD\u2019s collaboration with Aerosmith, \u201cMy Only Angel,\u201d which debuted at No. 1<\/a> on Billboard\u2018s Hot Hard Rock Songs <\/a>chart.
