The internet was in a frenzy after Jennifer Lopez<\/strong> and ex Ben Affleck<\/strong> were spotted cozying up to each other at the New York City premiere of her new movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman<\/em>, on October 6. The former couple looked completely at ease as they posed for photos<\/a> with their arms around one another and shared a quick, intimate chat in between red carpet interviews. Memes about Bennifer 3.0 circulated \u2014 along with the hashtag #BenniferForever \u2014 as fans excitedly posted about the possibility of a romantic reunion.<\/p>\n

It was soon revealed Affleck was there to support the film as an executive producer, not to hard-launch a reconciliation with Lopez, 56. According to sources, the actress \u2014 who split from Affleck<\/a> in August 2024 after two years of marriage (they ended their first engagement in 2004) \u2014 has no interest<\/a> in getting back together with the actor, 53. \u201cThere is nothing going on between them,\u201d one source tells Us Weekly<\/em>. The booked and busy star is thriving on her own, and focused solely on her kids (she and ex Marc Anthony<\/strong> share twins Max and Emme<\/a>, 17) and her career (she\u2019s earning Oscar buzz for her performance in Kiss of the Spider Woman<\/em>). \u201cJen feels more comfortable in her skin than ever,\u201d says a second source. \u201cThere\u2019s a sense of independence and peace about her. She\u2019s in a really good headspace right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

It took time for Lopez to heal<\/a>, but, says the second source, \u201cshe\u2019s accepted [her relationship with Ben] ran its course.\u201d The actress opened up about the divorce in a September interview on CBS News Sunday Morning<\/em>, calling it a \u201ctough time\u201d before noting that it ultimately became \u201cthe best thing that ever happened\u201d to her. \u201cIt helped me grow in a way I needed to grow, [to] become more self-aware,\u201d she added. \u201cI\u2019m a different person<\/a> than I was last year.\u201d A third source tells Us<\/em> Lopez is \u201cgrateful for the lessons she\u2019s learned\u201d from her marriage to Affleck. \u201cShe has no regrets.\u201d<\/p>\n

Working on Kiss of the Spider Woman<\/em><\/a> \u2014 the musical wrapped production roughly two months before Lopez filed for divorce \u2014 was a welcome distraction. \u201cEvery moment I was doing this role, I was so happy,\u201d she told CBS News<\/em>. \u201cThen back home, it was not great. It was like, \u2018Oh, how do I reconcile this?\u2019\u201d She channeled her pain into the project \u2014 especially when playing the character of Ingrid. \u201c[She] was feeling like she was cursed in love,\u201d she told USA Today<\/em>. \u201cI was very lucky, because it does come out in the performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2024, her professional life hit a low point with the lackluster sales of her album This Is Me\u2026 Now<\/em> and the subsequent cancellation<\/a> of her This Is Me\u2026 Live Tour<\/em> that May \u2014 but with Kiss of the Spider Woman<\/em>, she feels redeemed. \u201cShe\u2019s coming off a high with the movie opening,\u201d shares the third source. \u201cIt\u2019s fueling her confidence; she feels on top of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The second source says Lopez has been channeling all her energy into her work. In August, she wrapped her month-long overseas tour, Up All Night<\/em><\/a>. Next up, she\u2019ll star alongside Brett Goldstein<\/strong> in the Netflix rom-com Office Romance<\/em> and is heading to Las Vegas for her Up All Night residency, kicking off in December. The third source says that she\u2019s working on finalizing new music as well. \u201cShe feels like she has a lot more to give,\u201d adds the source. \u201cIt\u2019s just the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lopez and Affleck are in a good place<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s still a lot of love between them, but they both understand they shouldn\u2019t be married,\u201d the second source explains. \u201cThere is no \u2018So-and-so did this\u2019 or \u2018This was the big event,\u2019\u201d Affleck said of the split in April. \u201cIt\u2019s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also sang Lopez\u2019s praises at the premiere of Kiss of the Spider Woman<\/em>, telling Extra<\/em> that his ex-wife \u201creally does it all in this movie.\u201d Lopez credited Affleck with helping get the film made in her CBS Sunday Morning<\/em> interview, saying, \u201cI told him, \u2018This is a role that I was born to play,\u2019 and I wanted to do it, and he said, \u2018OK,\u2019 and he helped make it happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the warm words, a fourth source emphasizes that the exes\u2019 red-carpet appearance was \u201ca work thing\u201d and that they no longer have a \u201cdeep\u201d relationship. During an October 15 sit-down with Howard Stern<\/strong>, Lopez joked, \u201cOnce I\u2019m done, you\u2019re dead to me.\u201d She added, \u201cLike, not dead to me, but definitely like, it\u2019s over. I\u2019m gonna move on.\u201d Lopez \u201cdoesn\u2019t really keep in touch with Ben,\u201d says the fourth source. \u201cShe\u2019s more likely to keep in touch with the kids<\/a>; that was very genuine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lopez\u2019s twins and Affleck\u2019s three children remain close. (He shares Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner<\/strong>.) In September, Lopez was spotted shopping and grabbing lunch with Samuel in L.A. \u201cThey all try to maintain some type of normalcy after divorce,\u201d says the second source. \u201cThe transition was tough for everyone, but they\u2019ve made an effort to stay connected<\/a> and still spend time together.\u201d Max and Emme remain a top priority (the twins were also in attendance at the October 6 premiere). \u201cNo matter how busy she gets, her kids come first,\u201d says the second source. \u201cShe plans everything around being present for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lopez told Stern she\u2019s made a conscious effort to be even more present for her kids<\/a> in recent years. \u201cWhen the pandemic happened, I got to stay home, [and] I realized I need to be more home with them all the time,\u201d she explained. \u201cI realized how much they needed me there. It wasn\u2019t just about me giving them a great life.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her chat with Stern, the radio host asked her if she believed she\u2019d ever truly been loved<\/a>. \u201cNo,\u201d Lopez replied, noting that what she\u2019s learned is \u201cnot that I\u2019m not lovable. It\u2019s that they\u2019re not capable [of love.] They don\u2019t have it in them\u2026 [but] they gave me what they had.\u201d Reflecting further, she added, \u201cand I didn\u2019t love myself.\u201d It\u2019s something she\u2019s been working on since ending things with Affleck. The third source says she\u2019s been focusing on self-care and recognizing her self-worth<\/a>. \u201cShe\u2019s learning that she\u2019s stronger alone,\u201d notes the third source. \u201cShe\u2019s enjoying the freedom and feels liberated [to make] decisions without compromise.\u201d<\/p>\n
