The Resurrection of the Christ <\/strong>appears to be Mel Gibson<\/a>\u2019s most expensive film to date as a director.<\/p>\n The Resurrection of the Christ is the forthcoming follow-up to 2004\u2019s The Passion of the Christ<\/a>. That movie, which was directed and co-produced by Gibson, depicts the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Jesus, played by Jim Caviezel.<\/p>\n While it was previously known that The Resurrection of the Christ is being split into two different parts, Deadline<\/a> is now reporting that each film costs around $100 million to make, meaning the two-part project costs approximately $200 million in total.<\/p>\n In comparison, the budgets for the movies Gibson previously directed come in at approximately $37 million for 1993\u2019s The Man Without a Face, $53-72 million for 1995\u2019s Braveheart, $30 million for The Passion of the Christ, $40 million for 2006\u2019s Apocalypto, $40 million for 2016\u2019s Hacksaw Ridge, and $25 million for 2025\u2019s Flight Risk.<\/p>\n \u201cExpectations are for the films to pick up after Christ\u2019s crucifixion, which closed the previous iteration,\u201d Deadline\u2019s article reads. \u201cChrist\u2019s resurrection came three days later, according to the Bible. Don\u2019t expect a straightforward rendition, however. Gibson has spoken before about his vision for the film being \u2018an acid trip\u2019 and \u2018super ambitious,\u2019 including the fall of the angels and Christ descending into hell as part of his spiritual journey. Sources close to the project have confirmed to us that it will include battles between angels and demons and forces of \u2018good and evil\u2019 in other realms, which probably goes some way to explaining the big budget.\u201d<\/p>\n Caviezel will not be returning for The Resurrection of the Christ, as the role of Jesus is instead being played by Jaakko Ohtonen<\/a>. Monica Bellucci, who played Mary Magdalene, is also not coming back for Resurrection; Mariela Garriga is instead portraying the character.
