Prince Andrew was the third child of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip – but the first to be born to a reigning monarch for 103 years.<\/p>\n
He was created the Duke of York on his marriage to Sarah Ferguson, who became Duchess of York, in 1986. They had two daughters – Beatrice, in 1988, and Eugenie, in 1990. In March 1992 it was announced the duke and duchess were to separate. They divorced in 1996.<\/p>\n
The prince served for 22 years in the Royal Navy and saw active service in the Falklands War in 1982. In addition to royal engagements, he served as a special trade representative for the government until 2011.<\/p>\n
Prince Andrew stepped away from royal duties in 2019 after an interview with the BBC about his relationship with US financier Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking and conspiracy charges.<\/p>\n
In February 2022, the prince agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to settle a civil sexual assault case brought against him in the US by one of Epstein’s victims, although he made no admission of liability and had repeatedly denied the allegations.<\/p>\n
The scandal continued to dog the prince and in October 2025 he gave up his titles, including the Duke of York, following “discussion with the King”.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Prince Andrew said that the “continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family”.<\/p>\n
He remains eighth in line to the throne<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
