Glen Matlock<\/a> has said the Sex Pistols<\/a> \u201chave ideas\u201d for making new music with their new frontman Frank Carter<\/a>.<\/p>\n Last year, bassist Matlock, guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook of the punk legends\u2019 original line-up enlisted former Gallows frontman Carter to take on lead vocals in place of John Lydon for a series of shows at London\u2019s Bush Hall<\/a>. The line-up has since gone on to play tours around the UK<\/a> and have announced shows in North and South America<\/a>.<\/p>\n Now, Matlock has suggested that the new version of the band is prepared to record new music together too and are currently considering their options.<\/p>\n As told to the Daily Star<\/i><\/a>, Matlock said: \u201cWe talked about it with Steve Jones. We have ideas and Frank is a very good lyricist. Everyone has ideas, but we\u2019re very busy at the moment and haven\u2019t had a chance to really work things out.\u201d<\/p>\n He also reflected on how any new music would impact the band\u2019s legacy. \u201cAbove all, we have to ask ourselves if the public really wants us to release new music,\u201d he said. \u201cIn the end, who knows?\u201d<\/p>\n Last year, Matlock spoke to NME <\/i>about the possibility of making new music with Carter<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019ll see when we get back together again,\u201d he said. \u201cMaybe when we start rehearsing, something will come out.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut is the world ready for a new Sex Pistols record?\u201d he added. \u201cI dunno. I like what John said with this in \u201996 [during the band\u2019s Filthy Lucre reformation tour]. This journalist asked: \u2018Are you gonna make a new record?\u2019 John said: \u2018Why? What\u2019s wrong with the old one?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n NME <\/i>also asked Jones about the possibility earlier this year<\/a>. \u201cI think if you do anything new and you\u2019re playing it live, that\u2019s when people go and get a drink,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen was the last time you heard a good Rolling Stones song?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think you really have a window when you\u2019re young, where you\u2019re really creative and you\u2019re on the ball. When you\u2019re older, I think it runs out. I could be wrong!\u201d<\/p>\n For his part, Lydon has been critical of his former bandmates\u2019 decision to play with Carter<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s almost malicious in its intent,\u201d he told NME <\/i>last year. \u201cAnd it\u2019s karaoke \u2013 that\u2019s all it will ever be. Bloody hell, The Three Stooges in that band have had how many years to write some new songs? That\u2019s what I\u2019d like to hear.\u201d<\/p>\n In further comments in May<\/a>, Lydon added: \u201cIt\u2019s weird. [It\u2019s] a dumbing down of all the integrity, intensity, genuine honesty and heartfelt emotions I put into that band.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOf course, it\u2019s karaoke, but it\u2019s like\u2026 Come on, Mr Carter, you\u2019re not Johnny Rotten, I am. Right? Stop it,\u201d he added, before going on to name the one thing about the new frontman that got his seal of approval: \u201cI actually think he took it on in the right spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n The Pistols and Carter were due to kick off their North and South American dates last month, but were forced to postpone when Jones broke his wrist<\/a>.
