The Count<\/span> of<\/span> Monte<\/span> <\/a>Cristo<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>is getting another adaptation, this time with Sam Claflin<\/a> and Jeremy Irons<\/a>. As previously announced, the new series will premiere on PBS through PBS Masterpiece<\/a> following its 2024 debut overseas. PBS<\/a> has just announced when it will premiere in 2026, along with the first photos (above and below) from the upcoming series. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Count<\/span> of<\/span> Monte<\/span> Cristo<\/span><\/em> is a lushly lensed adaptation of<\/span> Alexandre Dumas\u2019 iconic masterpiece. The epic series is directed by two-time Palme d\u2019Or and Oscar-winner Bille August.<\/p>\n

The show will come out first on PBS\u2019s streaming services before debuting on the linear channel. The Count of Monte Cristo<\/em><\/span>\u00a0will premiere via streaming on the PBS app and PBS Masterpiece on Prime Video<\/a> on Sunday, March 1, 2026. A weekly broadcast will begin on Sunday, March 22, at 10\/9c on PBS.<\/p>\n

Claflin stars as Edmond Dant\u00e8s, a young sailor who was falsely accused of<\/span> treason and is imprisoned without trial in the Ch\u00e2teau d\u2019If, a grim island fortress of<\/span>f Marseille, France. After many years of<\/span> captivity, he finally escapes and discovers treasure, making him one of<\/span> the richest men in the world. Under the identity of<\/span> the Count<\/span> of<\/span> Monte<\/span> Cristo<\/span>, he plans to take revenge on those who wrongly accused him.<\/p>\n

Irons plays Abb\u00e9 Faria, with Ana Girardot<\/a> (The Returned<\/em>) as Mercedes. The series also stars The Gilded Age<\/a><\/em>\u2018s Blake Ritson<\/a>, Karla-Simone Spence<\/a>, and more.<\/p>\n

Claflin\u2019s newest series, Harlan Coben<\/a>\u2018s<\/em> Lazarus<\/em><\/a>, premieres today (October 22) on Prime Video. It stars Claflin as a forensic psychologist who investigates cold-case murders after returning to his family home following the death of his father, played by Bill Nighy<\/a>.<\/p>\n
