It&#8217;s sudsier than even the most dramatic prime time or daytime soap opera, suffering serious flaws that shows in that genre never suffered from \u2013 nearly unilateral predictability and being boring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/books\/2025\/09\/10\/colleen-hoover-book-woman-down\/86075599007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Based on the novel from Colleen Hoover;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Based on the novel from Colleen Hoover<\/a> and adapted for the screen by Susan McMartin, this drama directed by Josh Boone (\u201cThe Fault of Our Stars\u201d) blending teen and adult angst is more emotional slog than emotional revelation, which proves entirely disappointing given Boone\u2019s prior work on \u201cStars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In this story of betrayal and regret he never finds the emotional center and relies on clich\u00e9 in an attempt to get any type of reaction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Grants \u2013 Morgan (Allison Williams), Chris <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/movies\/2015\/04\/08\/scott-eastwood-teaches-mechanical-bull-riding-longest-ride\/25430567\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:(Scott Eastwood);elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">(Scott Eastwood)<\/a>, daughter Clara <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/movies\/2025\/04\/25\/hunger-games-sunrise-on-the-reaping-movie-cast\/83272463007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:(Mckenna Grace);elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">(Mckenna Grace)<\/a> \u2013 and their extended family \u2013 Chris\u2019 best friend Jonah (Dave Franco), Morgan\u2019s sister and Jonah\u2019s girlfriend Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald) \u2013 would seem to be the perfect familial unit. As for Clara, her Aunt Jenny was her best friend and learning of the affair would be too much for her to handle emotionally given recent events, so, of course, it\u2019s hidden from her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">She\u2019s having to contend with too much as it is, including a budding romance with Miller Adams (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/movies\/2025\/06\/16\/how-to-train-your-dragon-mason-thames\/84169929007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Mason Thames;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Mason Thames<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The affair proves to be the only twist in \u201cRegretting You,\u201d as it becomes increasingly predictable with each and every dramatic moment that\u2019s telegraphed from miles away, thus, in turn, making the film a long trip.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">From the moment of the accident on, watching Morgan and Jonah interact proves to be tedious. From the movie\u2019s beginning it\u2019s not difficult to tell which road the duo will travel together, but their journey lacks the emotional appeal to hold anyone\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The romance between Clara and Miller is at least somewhat more compelling, but at times suffers from direction where Boone is looking for that one romantic moment that will find its place in the lexicon of teen romances. Think John Cusack with a boombox in \u201cSay Anything.\u201d The effort feels forced and ultimately falls flat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">What does work with \u201cRegretting You?\u201d Franco makes his character compelling enough to engender empathy, but Thames (\u201cHow to Train Your Dragon\u201d), with his Andrew Garfield-like energy and mannerisms, provides some compelling moments. He possesses the charm and requisite skills to have a long career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ultimately, \u201cRegretting You\u201d commits the sin of being mostly predictable leading it be more boring than interesting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><em>George M.
