Ed Sheeran<\/a>\u2019s going back to school!<\/p>\n The \u201cSapphire\u201d singer, 34, took the reins on music class over at a public school in Brooklyn for a new episode of the web series Celebrity Substitute<\/a>, which aired on Wednesday, Oct. 22.<\/p>\n In the episode, Sheeran stepped in as a sub to teach a classroom of elementary school students how to create a song using looper pedals, something he does often at his concerts. The end result was a delightfully silly tune about the importance of brushing one\u2019s teeth.<\/p>\n At the beginning, Sheeran told host Julian Shapiro-Barnum that he felt the day would \u201ceither go really well and you\u2019ll be like, \u2018That was great,\u2019 or it\u2019ll really fail and you\u2019ll get a lot of clicks.\u201d<\/p>\n Music teachers Mr. Chung and Mr. Hampton called Sheeran\u2019s lesson plan \u201cambitious,\u201d as it involved teaching kids the importance of rhythm, finding their own unique sound, and then rehearsing the show before playing live for their teachers.<\/p>\n Sheeran \u2014 whom the kids called Mr. Ed \u2014kicked things off by singing an acoustic version of his 2014 song \u201cPhotograph,\u201d<\/a> before introducing the kids to the loop machine. They all took a turn contributing a sound \u2014 some sang, some played saxophone and some just made funky noises.<\/p>\n Celebrity Substitute\/YouTube<\/p>\n Ed Sheeran with the students<\/p><\/div>\n Eventually, their new skills culminated in a concert, during which Sheeran played a guitar beat and a student sang, \u201cI woke up one day, I brushed my teeth.”<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m brushing my teeth, I\u2019m brushing my teeth, oh yeah,\u201d Sheeran added, as the track came together into a complete song.<\/p>\n The \u201cShape of You\u201d singer ultimately earned an overall A grade on his teacher report card.<\/p>\n \u201cI was prepared to tear you down and cut you to pieces, but you got my heart,\u201d Mr. Chung told him. \u201cYou\u2019re a musician. You get it. Everyone\u2019s having a good time. That\u2019s what music is about.\u201d<\/p>\n The star is no stranger to dealing with children, as he\u2019s dad to daughters Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3<\/a>, with wife Cherry Seaborn<\/a>.<\/p>\n Celebrity Substitute\/YouTube<\/p>\n Ed Sheeran and the students<\/p><\/div>\n Sheeran released his latest album Play on Sept. 12, and is set to kick off his Loop Tour<\/a> in December, which will keep him on the road through November 2026.<\/p>\n<\/span><\/div>\n
