Prince Andrew<\/a>\u2019s lease arrangements at the Royal Lodge will be looked into by the Commons spending watchdog, the committee has said.<\/p>\n

Andrew lives in the mansion on a peppercorn rent with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.<\/p>\n

Chair of the Public Accounts Committee Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown said he will be seeking answers from the Crown Estate<\/a> and the Treasury on the arrangement.<\/p>\n

He said: “The Public Accounts Committee which I chair will be writing in the coming days to the Crown Estate Commissioners and HM Treasury, seeking further information on the lease arrangements for Royal Lodge.\u201d<\/p>\n

“In the correspondence, our cross-party committee will be raising a number of questions with the Crown Estate and HM Treasury.<\/p>\n

“This forms part of our long-standing remit, on behalf of Parliament and the British public, to examine the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of public spending, and ensure the taxpayer is receiving best value for money.<\/p>\n

“Our committee has a further opportunity in 2026 to consider the annual report and accounts for the Crown Estate, and will make a decision on whether to undertake any work on this in the normal way.<\/p>\n

“We will review the response we receive to our forthcoming correspondence and will consider at that time whether to seek further information.”<\/p>\n

It comes after Andrew relinquished his royal titles amid growing pressure over his links to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He said in a statement: \u201cIn discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.<\/p>\n

“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.<\/p>\n

“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.<\/p>\n

“As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
