The sex comedy feature Messy is ready to mingle with theatergoers.<\/p>\n
Vertical has acquired Alexi Wasser\u2019s directorial feature debut for distribution in North America, in addition to the U.K. and Ireland, and will release it in theaters and via VOD on Oct. 31, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. Wasser wrote, directed and stars in the movie.<\/p>\n
More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n The film\u2019s supporting cast includes Thomas Middleditch, Jack Kilmer, Ruby McCollister, Adam Goldberg, Mario Cantone, Ione Skye and Merlot.<\/p>\n Messy centers on Stella (Wasser), a promiscuous love addict who moves to New York City following a tough breakup and sets out on a string of dates in the hopes of finding the right match.<\/p>\n The film hails from Simone Films, with Wasser, Rebekah Sherman-Myntti, KJ Rothweiler and Amira Stevenson-Hynes serving as producers. Executive producers include David Lowery and Augustine Frizzell.<\/p>\n Messy debuted at the New\/Next Film Festival and held its NYC premiere at the Downtown Festival. AGI Entertainment Media & Management continues to handle worldwide distribution.<\/p>\n Wasser\u2019s acting credits include the series Poker Face, Girls and Search Party. She is currently developing her second feature, which is a modern love story taking place at the Hotel Chelsea in NYC.<\/p>\n During an interview with Paper<\/a>, Wasser discussed her real-life breakup that helped inspire the movie. \u201cFor me, because so much of Messy was autobiographical \u2014 heightened, but autobiographical \u2014 it took me making this movie to learn the lessons I should have learned after all my disappointing and at times humiliating dating experiences,\u201d Wasser said.<\/p>\n She also added, \u201cI\u2019m very proud of the movie. I can\u2019t wait for people to see it.
