So many <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/movies\/articles\/think-hollywood-may-made-big-110000435.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:great horror movies have already come out;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><u>great horror movies have already come out<\/u><\/a> pre-Halloween among the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/upcoming-movies-2025-movie-release-130453990.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:2025 movie releases;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><u>2025 movie releases<\/u><\/a>. However, I just got to see Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019 new movie with Emma Stone <em>Bugonia<\/em>, and I can\u2019t recommend making it your Halloween movie outing.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\">Why I Think You Should Add Bugonia To Your Spooky Season Watchlist<\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If you\u2019ve followed <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/poor-things-emma-stone-yorgos-133053271.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos ongoing movie partnership;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><u>Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos ongoing movie partnership<\/u><\/a>, you probably expect something offkilter out of <em>Bugonia<\/em> already. However, I think there\u2019s a fine line when it comes to \u201cweird\u201d movies for me, because I don\u2019t want to be transported so much into a wild plotline that it loses me. I\u2019m happy to report that <em>Bugonia<\/em> is absolutely the right kind of weird. While it\u2019s more of a dark comedy than a horror movie, I totally want to revisit it for Halloween, and suggest fellow movie fans opt for the same.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I don\u2019t want to get too into the weeds about the movie because it was fun for me to sort of go into blind, but I do want to pitch you on why I liked it so much. The basic premise of <em>Bugonia<\/em> is that Emma Stone plays the CEO of a major pharmaceutical company who gets kidnapped by one of the low-ranking employees of her business because he suspects her to be an alien who is causing the everyday calamity on Earth. Jesse Plemons beautifully plays the conspiracy theorist who has abducted her and made sure her head is shaved (yes, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/movies\/articles\/emma-stone-got-real-panicking-220600313.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Stone shaved her head for real;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><u>Stone shaved her head for real<\/u><\/a>) so she can\u2019t contact her race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Obviously there\u2019s a certain amount of ridiculousness to the plot as is, but I was really impressed about how <em>Bugonia<\/em> balances being this grounded movie about the current state of humanity with providing plenty of comedic moments. It\u2019s one of those WTF movies, as I expected, but I was particularly impressed by how it\u2019s a lot more accessible to audiences than other Lanthimos movies, like let\u2019s say<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/kinds-kindness-review-yorgos-lanthimos-063115208.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:the director\u2019s last movie, Kinds Of Kindness;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><u> the director\u2019s last movie, <\/u><u><em>Kinds Of Kindness<\/em><\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And for the horror fans out there. It\u2019s definitely horrifying enough to satisfy your wants to be haunted during the spooky season. It was just as effective and actually felt like a thriller a lot more than I expected it might.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\">I Saw Bugonia At Focus Features\u2019 Inaugural Fan-Centric Film Festival<\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I saw <em>Bugonia <\/em>when CinemaBlend was invited to attend the first-ever FocusFest at the Universal Backlot in Los Angeles, California. The all-day event allowed cinephiles to feel like they were in a film festival with retrospective viewings of <em>The Big Lebowski<\/em> and <em>Promising Young Woman<\/em>, along with advanced screenings for <em>Bugonia<\/em> and <em>Obsession<\/em>. As a huge movie fan myself, I was impressed with what the new festival had to offer, which included complementary themed food, refreshments, activations and a custom bowling shirt a la <em>The Big Lebowski.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Focus Features is behind a lot of modern classics, like <em>Dazed And Confused<\/em>, <em>Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind<\/em>, <em>Lost In Translation<\/em>, <em>Brokeback Mountain<\/em> and <em>Pride &amp; Prejudice<\/em>, so I can definitely see how FocusFest could continue to happen yearly in Los Angeles and draw the city in by showing more of its beloved titles alongside their new releases. It was so much fun to see this movie alongside other movie fans for the first time, and early!
