More than 10\u00a0years after <\/span>Dennis Kamakahi’s death, a new album featuring seven of his original compositions will be released on Friday, Oct. 24. <\/span>\u201cSlack Key Heaven\u201d features music from Kamakahi\u2019s personal recordings and notes.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSlack Key Heaven\u201d consists of seven songs: \u201cKo\u02bbolau \u2018Ui,\u201d \u201cWaipi\u02bbi,\u201d \u201cHe Mele No Pepe (Song For Baby),\u201d \u201cTwin Peaks Slack Key,\u201d \u201cMaui Mountain Home,\u201d \u201cMission Street Slack Key,\u201d and \u201cMisty Rain.\u201d Kamakahi, a prolific songwriter and slack-key guitarist<\/u><\/a>, died in 2014, according to The New York Times. He composed about 500 songs and was also an ordained Episcopal minister, as reported by the NYT. In the 1970s, he joined Eddie Kamae\u2019s Sons of Hawai\u02bbi<\/u><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n On Spotify<\/u><\/a>, Kamakahi\u2019s music gets more than 63,000 monthly listeners. Some of his most popular songs on the platform include \u201cWahine \u2018Ilikea,\u201d which has more than 5 million streams, \u201c\u016alili E\u201d which features his son, David, <\/a>and has more than 4.6 million streams, and \u201cAlways,\u201d which has more than 1 million streams.<\/span><\/p>\n In 2009, the N\u0101 H\u014dk\u016b Hanohano Award-winning musician<\/u><\/a> was inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame<\/u><\/a>, as previously reported by PBS Hawai\u2019i.
