The young singer\/songwriter has earned a coveted Grammy Award nomination and held a spot on Morgan Wallen\u2019s highly ambitious I\u2019m <em>The Problem<\/em> stadium tour.<\/p>\n<p>But Wilson\u2019s personal life has been far from easy.\u00a0At 15 years old, the Platinum-certified artist was overcome with grief when a car accident took her brother Jacob\u2019s life. But, through the turmoil, Wilson leaned into her faith more than ever and found a connection to her late sibling through music.<\/p>\n<p>For Wilson, music has taken her to places she could have never imagined. Her albums, such as <em>2022\u2019s My Jesus<\/em> and 2024\u2019s <em>Rebel, <\/em>have reached the hearts of folks from both the Christian and country music communities, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Now, fans are finally getting the full range of Wilson\u2019s artistry with the release of her new album, <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/annewilson.lnk.to\/starsPR\">Stars<\/a><\/em>, her most panoramic portrait yet. The deeply personal 12-track project, produced by Jeff Pardo with select contributions from Jonathan Smith and Ross Copperman, debuted on Friday, Oct. 17 via Capitol Christian Music Group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis record is really important to me in so many ways,\u201d Wilson told <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/musicmayhemmagazine.com\">Music Mayhem<\/a><\/em> of the coming-of-age album, which finds her listed in the songwriting credits on every track and is rooted in grief, growth, and the relentless pursuit of honesty. \u201cIt\u2019s my third album, and I\u2019m 23 now. I\u2019ve experienced so much life since my brother passed away in 2017\u2026 <em>Star<\/em>s captures what I\u2019ve been through in the last few years, the struggles, and the healing, especially this past year.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Anne Wilson \u2018Stars\u2019 Album Art<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Wilson\u2019s current age finds her reflecting more than ever on her brother\u2019s life, as he was only 23 when he passed. The song on <em>Stars<\/em> aptly titled \u201cTwenty Three\u201d pays a heartfelt tribute to Jacob, with Wilson sharing the lyrics, <em>\u201cBoy, you ran that road right out \/ Made the most of every second God gave you \/ And I\u2019ll be lucky to live half the life with the time that He gives me \/ Than all the years you fit in only twenty-three<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTurning 23 was big for me,\u201d Wilson explains of her birthday this year. \u201cIt was this realization that I was going to live longer than my brother ever got to. I wanted to write about the grief of that\u2014and how I was feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the emotional centerpiece of the project, the title track \u201cStars,\u201d which also serves as the album opener, takes listeners back to Wilson\u2019s childhood dreams. I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll ever stop writing songs about Jacob because grief doesn\u2019t disappear. When you lose someone like that, there\u2019s a missing piece to you forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Songs like \u201cGod\u2019s Story\u201d focus on redemption, with Wilson sharing her gratitude for seeing the light at the end of a dark tunnel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMy life is a God story \/ Gotta tell the world what He\u2019s done for me \/ Miracle on miracles that only He could do \/ I\u2019m proof that we\u2019re all only one prayer away from a testimony \/ There\u2019s only One getting all the glory \/ My whole life is a God story (God story)<\/em>,\u201d she sings the lyrics of the song, written with Pardo and West.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>God Story<\/em> was me reflecting on my life since my brother passed and realizing how far I\u2019ve come,\u201d Wilson acknowledges. \u201cWhen you\u2019re in the middle of pain, you can\u2019t see past it. It\u2019s not a faith-heavy song\u2014it\u2019s just honest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, much of <em>Stars<\/em> finds Wilson leaning heavily into her Christian roots, but she also makes plenty of room for the country genre. Songs like \u201cHold Your Horses,\u201d \u201cJesus on the Radio,\u201d and \u201cDead in the Water\u201d offer that twangy, Western flair that is just as authentically her as her spiritually-driven tracks. Every album I\u2019ve made reflects whatever season I\u2019m in,\u201d Wilson shared. \u201cSometimes it\u2019s more country, sometimes more worship\u2014this one is both.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Having previously toured with Wallen has also put Wilson in front of an even larger country audience, but she says she hasn\u2019t redirected her way of performing as she continues to remain consistent in how she entertains the audience every time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlaying in a stadium for the first time and getting to be myself\u2014that was a moment I\u2019ll never forget,\u201d Wilson, who has over 2 billion career streams, said. \u201cI sang the same set I\u2019d do at a church or my own show. Just being authentically me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of my fans are people going through grief,\u201d she added. \u201cOne of my favorite stories is from when \u2018My Jesus\u2019 came out in 2021. A man messaged me saying his son had died 25 years ago, and he and his wife had never been able to move on\u2014until they heard my song. It\u2019s a great way to just continue a little girl\u2019s faith and journey of really knowing her worth in Christ. A reminder of their identity in Christ\u2014that their worth doesn\u2019t come from bullies or social media, but from Jesus,\u201d she notes. \u201cIt\u2019s truly rooted in who Jesus calls her to be. So I pray that this devotional encourages and inspires these young girls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While she\u2019s accomplished more than most artists her age, Wilson is in no way slowing down. She says, \u201cI think for the next year I\u2019m going to be writing some more. And we have a lot coming up next year that we can\u2019t share just yet.
