Whoopi Goldberg<\/strong> is admitting that she\u2019s not perfect, especially before she became sober.<\/p>\n The TV personality, 69, was discussing the recent controversy surrounding Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner<\/strong> on the Thursday, October 23, episode of The View<\/em><\/a> with her fellow co-hosts when the topic of drunken behavior came into play.<\/p>\n It was recently revealed that Platner, who is running in the Democratic primary in the 2026 United States Senate election, had his chest tattoo with Nazi imagery covered up.<\/p>\n According to the Associated Press<\/a>,<\/em> Platner got a skull and crossbones tattoo in 2007 after a night of drinking in Croatia when he was in his 20s and in the Marine Corps. He claimed that he did not know the symbol inked on his skin was associated with the Nazi party.<\/p>\n Some of the ladies on The View<\/em><\/a>, however, don\u2019t believe Platner\u2019s story. \u201cI don\u2019t buy it,\u201d said Joy Behar<\/strong>. \u201cWhen I have a couple of glasses of wine, I don\u2019t start spouting Nazi slogans.\u201d<\/p>\n Behar, 83, added that she believes, \u201cWhen you\u2019re drunk, you tell the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n Still, Goldberg said she can see both sides of the coin. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, when I was drinking, strange stuff came out of my mouth,\u201d she confessed, to which Behar replied: \u201cBut it wasn\u2019t racist. It wasn\u2019t antisemitic.\u201d<\/p>\n Goldberg then said, \u201cYou don\u2019t know that! Listen, I\u2019m simply saying I can\u2019t tell you that when I used to get drunk I didn\u2019t do stupid stuff. But what I can<\/em> tell you is that I know I drank and did stupid stuff, and I took responsibility for it \u2014 and that\u2019s what I\u2019m saying \u2014 before it\u2019s uncovered by other people.\u201d<\/p>\n Before the show cut to commercial break<\/a>, she told the audience, \u201cAnd don\u2019t think I don\u2019t think y\u2019all will be looking for stuff. But you can\u2019t find anything of me drunk cause I haven\u2019t drank in years. But that\u2019s my point. My point is I understand people do stupid stuff, but you got to take responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n While it is unclear how long Goldberg has been sober, she has opened up about previous addiction in her memoir Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me<\/em>, in which she revealed she really hit rock bottom in the 1980s.<\/p>\n When The View<\/em> returned from commercial break, Goldberg wanted to clarify what she said<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cBefore we start, I just want to point out that my point was that people say stupid stuff sometimes when they\u2019re inebriated. I am not a racist,\u201d she insisted. \u201cI know how folks like to send that stuff in.
