Megan Moroney\u2019s long-anticipated ballad \u201cBeautiful Things\u201d is out now. On Friday, the country queen released the sweet single she\u2019s been performing on her Am I Okay?<\/em> tour<\/a>, which is set to be featured on her third album.<\/p>\n \u201cWords can make a mockingbird forget they\u2019re born to sing\/Lies can break a fragile heart\/And doubt can crush your dreams,\u201d she sings in the chorus. \u201cBut, honey, just take it from me\/The world is hard on beautiful things.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n Moroney first played the song for Rolling Stone<\/em> during a cover story interview<\/a> last January. During the chat in Tennessee, she shared that co-writer Connie Harrington walked in with the idea and some of the lyrics, and immediately polished it. \u201cIt kind of reminds me of \u2018Girl in the Mirror\u2019s\u2019 older sister,\u201d Moroney told Rolling Stone<\/em>, referring to her fan-favorite Lucky<\/a><\/em> song. \u201cMy songs are all connected. \u2018Girl in the Mirror\u2019 means a lot to people, and I feel like this one will too.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI wish I had this song in high school,\u201d Moroney added.<\/p>\n Moroney would later debut the song<\/a> during a Bluebird Caf\u00e9 event with Ed Sheeran and Amy Allen. She\u2019s since added it to the setlist of her sold-out tour.<\/p>\n Moroney wrote \u201cBeautiful Things\u201d with Harrington, Jessie Alexander, and Jessie Jo Dillon, the songwriting crew\u00a0<\/em>that\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s cover story dubbed the \u201cBuc-ee\u2019s Avengers,\u201d during a writing retreat. During the interview, Harrington wiped away tears after hearing Moroney play the song: \u201cA lot of girls suffer in silence, and you suffer publicly,\u201d she told Moroney at the time.<\/p>\n \u201cWe always say that our song is probably not as good as it should be if Connie doesn\u2019t cry,\u201d Moroney said. \u201cWe wrote the crap out of these songs. We exerted all of our options on every verse, every word.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBeautiful Things\u201d is the second single off of Moroney\u2019s upcoming third album, which does not yet have a name. She first teased the record with the country radio hit \u201c6 Months Later.<\/a>\u201d She also dropped a cover of Toby Keith\u2019s \u201cWho\u2019s Your Daddy?\u201d<\/a> in July and a live album of her Am I Okay?
