She discussed the film\u2019s legacy and cult revival, noting that the new project \u201csounds fun and crazy\u201d like the original.<\/p>\n Director Karyn Kusama confirmed to Deadline<\/a> that writer Diablo Cody is developing a sequel to Jennifer\u2019s Body (2009). \u201cI know she\u2019s working on it right now, and I\u2019m very excited to hear what comes of it,\u201d Kusama said.<\/p>\n \u201cI know some of the bones of it, so I\u2019m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.\u201d<\/p>\n The original comedy-horror starred Megan Fox as Jennifer, a high school cheerleader possessed by a demon. She targets her male classmates, as Amanda Seyfried plays her best friend Needy, determined to stop her.<\/p>\n Although the film underperformed upon release, it has since gained a strong cult following. Kusama said she\u2019s \u201cjust so grateful that the film managed to find its audience\u201d years after its mis-marketing by the studio.<\/p>\n Reflecting on the film\u2019s legacy, Kusama said, \u201cFor the part of me that has a healthy ego that I try to keep in check, to have Jennifer\u2019s Body be like the antidote to another classic film that I worship\u2026 the idea that Jennifer\u2019s Body would be somebody\u2019s Godfather just tickles me all the way down to my toes.\u201d She also praised Cody\u2019s original script for its \u201cfunny, scary, and tragic\u201d tone, adding that its themes of female friendship and self-discovery felt emotionally authentic.<\/p>\n The director also recalled Pete Wentz\u2019s audition for Adam Brody\u2019s role and expressed appreciation for the cast, including Seyfried, J.K. Simmons, Amy Sedaris, and Kyle Gallner.
