{"id":2112264,"date":"2025-10-24T08:08:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T08:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2112264"},"modified":"2025-10-24T08:08:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T08:08:07","slug":"pressure-grows-on-andrew-over-royal-lodge-lease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/pressure-grows-on-andrew-over-royal-lodge-lease\/","title":{"rendered":"Pressure grows on Andrew over Royal Lodge lease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-testid=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Prince Andrew is coming under increased pressure as controversy surrounding him and the lease of his Royal Lodge home builds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">The king\u2019s brother <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" data-testid=\"next-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/2025-10-17\/prince-andrew-agrees-to-give-up-titles\"><span class=\"n6NlI\"><strong class=\"_1ATDh\">relinquished his Duke of York title on Friday amid intensified focus on his links with <\/strong><\/span><\/a>convicted sex offender Jeffrey <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" data-testid=\"next-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/2025-10-17\/prince-andrew-agrees-to-give-up-titles\"><span class=\"n6NlI\"><strong class=\"_1ATDh\">Epstein<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">The scandal that has long dogged the former duke was reignited this week after a <!-- -->posthumous memoir <!-- -->by <!-- -->his accuser, Virginia Giuffre<!-- -->, in which she makes a series of claims against Andrew. <\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Andrew has always strongly denied the allegations made against him by Virginia Giuffre. <\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">In the wake of the book&#8217;s release, Andrew<!-- --> is facing growing calls to vacate the 30-room Royal Lodge over claims the prince\u2019s \u201cpeppercorn\u201d rent on the Crown Estate property in Windsor Great Park was concealed in a redacted version of his lease submitted to the Land Registry more than 20 years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">The Times reported the 2003 redacted version, compared with the full lease released this week, read \u201c\u2019Rent\u2019 means\u201d rather than \u201c\u2019Rent\u2019 means one peppercorn (if demanded)\u201d, and also \u201cTo pay the Rent\u201d rather than \u201cTo pay the Rent if demanded\u201d.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"cp_grid-legacy n1Jiz\" data-testid=\"inline-tile-list-container\">\n<article data-testid=\"tile-undefined\" class=\"_9ngZG cp_grid-legacy__item cp_width-legacy--one-half V42pZ\"\/>\n<article data-testid=\"tile-undefined\" class=\"_9ngZG cp_grid-legacy__item cp_width-legacy--one-half V42pZ\"\/><\/aside>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">The newspaper said the decision not to reveal such details was legal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">But the move raises questions as to why how much Andrew was paying was seemingly hidden from the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">The Public Accounts Committee has already confirmed it is writing to the Crown Estate and the Treasury asking for further information about the prince\u2019s lease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Broadcast crews and photographers gathered outside the gates of Royal Lodge on Thursday evening amid speculation there could be further developments in the long-running controversy surrounding the late Queen\u2019s second son.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"A8Lwr mes-O\"><figcaption class=\"Ya3u6 SilLI\" data-testid=\"captioned-picture-caption\">Andrew lives at Royal Lodge with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson<span class=\"mjYl8\"> Credit: <!-- -->Chris Jackson\/PA<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Friends of the prince reportedly told The Telegraph that Andrew believes the King is trying to force him out of the mansion because he wants it as a base for the Queen in Windsor should she outlive him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Buckingham Palace strongly denied that this was the King\u2019s plan.
