The last few times Danya Jimenez<\/a> and Hannah McMechan<\/a> have shown up to a movie theater, they\u2019ve been greeted by eager fans of their film \u201cKPop Demon Hunters<\/a>\u201d \u2014 and the Santa Fe International Film Festival was no exception. During Variety\u2019s 10 Screenwriters to Watch panel, where the writing duo was among the scribes honored, the front row of the Sky Cinemas theater was filled with tween fans eager to learn how the animated sensation came to fruition.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started writing that in 2020 during the pandemic,\u201d Jimenez<\/a> recalled. \u201cAt first, we were like, \u2018This is going to be the biggest movie ever, and then as time passed, we were like, \u2018Maybe it won\u2019t get made. Who knows?\u2019 And then we were on set this summer and the trailer dropped and we were shocked. You don\u2019t really expect anything from this career.
