STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island\u2019s favorite murderous mouse is setting sail once again.<\/p>\n
Director Steven LaMorte<\/a>, the Monsignor Farrell High School alum behind the viral horror-comedy \u201cScreamboat,\u201d announced this week that a sequel is officially on the way. Titled \u201cScreamboat 2: Nothing Stays Dead,\u201d the follow-up will expand on the first film\u2019s cliffhanger ending \u2014 and, yes, introduce Minnie Mouse into the chaos.<\/p>\n LaMorte teased the project at the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards on Oct. 19, where \u201cScreamboat\u201d won Best Public Domain Resurrection, before officially confirming the sequel to \u201cVariety\u201d<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n The sequel will reportedly begin development in 2026. The first film, which premiered in April<\/a> and hit Peacock in September, reimagined Disney\u2019s 1928 \u201cSteamboat Willie\u201d short as a Staten Island Ferry-set slasher, filmed aboard the decommissioned ferry co-owned by Pete Davidson and Colin Jost.<\/p>\n LaMorte, who grew up on Staten Island and frequently collaborates with hometown team Fuzz on the Lens Productions, said in a statement to \u201cVariety\u201d:<\/p>\n \u201cWe had so much fun bringing these iconic characters to life with a bloody twist, and I look forward to returning to the world of \u2018Screamboat\u2019 to create even more miniature murder and mayhem.\u201d<\/p>\n When reached for comment, Fuzz on the Lens \u2014 the Staten Island production company behind \u201cScreamboat,\u201d \u201cSTREAM\u201d and the wildly popular \u201cTerrifier\u201d franchise<\/a> \u2014 told the Advance\/SILive.com<\/a> that while they\u2019re excited to see the franchise continue, their own involvement in the sequel isn\u2019t yet confirmed. <\/p>\n \u201cWe are very happy with the response \u2018Screamboat\u2019 has received from audiences around the world and the Chainsaw Award is just icing on the cake,\u201d the team told the Advance\/SILive.com<\/a> in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor that our films have received multiple Chainsaw Awards at this point and we hope to continue that trend in the future. So we are very happy that \u2018Screamboat\u2019 will be sailing on, Steven and Amy are the perfect people to have at the helm.
