It\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia<\/i><\/span><\/a> has lasted a record-breaking 20 years on television, and through all the schemes, stunts, sagas and storylines of the last 17 seasons, <\/span>Deandra \u201cSweet Dee\u201d Reynolds <\/span><\/a>has learned so little. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When you go back and watch the first season of\u00a0It\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia<\/i>, you understand why, when <\/span>Rob Mac <\/span><\/a>(formerly Robert McElhenney III), <\/span>Glenn Howerton <\/span><\/a>and <\/span>Charlie Day <\/span><\/a>first offered <\/span>Kaitlin Olson <\/span><\/a>the role of Sweet Dee, <\/span>she turned it down <\/span><\/a>over her concerns that the lone female character wasn\u2019t as funny as her male counterparts. Before Danny DeVito dropped in and\u00a0Always Sunny\u00a0<\/i>really hit its stride, Sweet Dee was almost the show\u2019s voice of reason, a cooler head to counterbalance her always-hot coworkers \u2014 but, thankfully, that all went out the window around the time she started using steroids. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ever since\u00a0It\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia\u00a0<\/i>Season Two, Sweet Dee has been just as much of a degenerate as the rest of the <\/span>Paddy\u2019s Pub Gang<\/span><\/a>, and Olson wouldn\u2019t have it any other way. During a recent interview with\u00a0<\/span>Esquire<\/i><\/span><\/a>, Olson reflected on the last two decades of playing Sweet Dee, reminiscing about how far the most important character of her career hasn\u2019t come. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When asked about the longevity of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia<\/i>, Olson replied, \u201cIt\u2019s ridiculous. Every time I think about it, I\u2019<\/span>m like, \u2018What?\u2019 It feels like both five years ago that we started and 200 years ago that we started.\u201d<\/p>\n Looking back at that first season of Always Sunny<\/i>, Olson said, \u201cOur lives are completely different. I was a child. It\u2019s very funny.\u201d <\/p>\n While Olson and her cast mates have grown quite a bit over the last two decades of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia<\/i>, their characters certainly haven\u2019<\/span>t \u2014 at least, not in any of the non-physical ways. When asked if she thinks that Sweet Dee \u201chas evolved as a character\u201d over the course of the last 17 seasons, Olson was hilariously blunt. \u201cGlad you asked. Dee has not evolved whatsoever,\u201d Olson answered with a laugh. \u201cShe just got older. But that\u2019s the whole point. These characters will just dig themselves into deeper and deeper holes, and they\u2019ll never learn anything. They\u2019ll never have a light-bulb moment or a moral epiphany.\u201d <\/p>\n Furthermore, Olson has a dark prediction for the future of Sweet Dee and the rest of the Paddy\u2019<\/span>s Pub Gang, saying, \u201cThey\u2019re just going to end up like Danny DeVito, all of \u2019em: short and bald.\u201d <\/p>\n
