So when President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January requiring U.S. federal agencies to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/story\/news\/state\/2025\/02\/11\/gulf-of-america-mexico-google-apple-maps-why-donald-trump-executive-order-social-media-reactions\/78408374007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:\u201cGulf of America,\u201d;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">\u201cGulf of America,\u201d<\/a> Crockett took to social media\u00a0defending the body of water\u2019s longstanding name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI was born on the Gulf of Mexico. I don\u2019t recognize it by any other name,\u201d Crockett <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DPhPJhKEp9Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:wrote on Instagram;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">wrote on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cAny real Texan knows that our Mexican American brothers and sisters hold up our economy in every industry. I\u2019m proud to have been born in the Rio Grande Valley, where the population is over 90% Latino. If those boys in Washington, D.C., wanna go renaming regions of this country, they can start with New England. Because it ain\u2019t new and it ain\u2019t England.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Crockett has had a busy year. He just wrapped \u201cThe Crooner &amp; The Cowboy Tour\u201d with Leon Bridges in September, which kicked off shortly after releasing \u201cLonesome Drifter\u201d in March \u2014 his first album on Island Records. Floore\u2019s Country Store in San Antonio. The footage is interwoven with interviews and archival clips that trace Crockett\u2019s journey from his humble beginnings to his current success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The documentary opens with his childhood in San Benito, where he was raised by a single mother, before following his early career busking in New York City subways with the Train Robbers.
