After the breakout success of It Ends With Us<\/a><\/em>, another Colleen Hoover<\/a> novel is making its way to the big screen. Regretting You<\/a><\/em>, directed by The Fault in Our Stars<\/em> filmmaker Josh Boone, reimagines Hoover\u2019s 2019 novel as a sweeping mother-daughter drama about loss, betrayal, and rediscovery. The Paramount Pictures film opens in theaters<\/a> today.<\/p>\n The movie stars Allison Williams<\/a> as Morgan Grant, a young mother whose life is upended when a tragic car accident exposes a web of secrets that threatens to pull her family apart. Mckenna Grace<\/a> plays her teenage daughter, Clara, while Dave Franco<\/a> and Mason Thames round out the ensemble as the men caught in their orbit. Hoover\u2019s story centers on what happens after grief.<\/p>\n Production wrapped earlier this year in Atlanta, with Boone reuniting with producers Brunson Green and Flavia Viotti. \u201cThere are so few movies that come out in theaters nowadays that aren\u2019t big spectacle movies,\u201d Boone told Entertainment Weekly<\/a> <\/em>in July. \u201cIt seems really special to get a grounded human drama in a movie theater that\u2019s great for moms and daughters to go see together.\u201d<\/p>\n Williams, who also stars in M3GAN 2.0<\/a><\/em>, told Interview<\/a><\/em> that taking on Morgan felt both daunting and fated. \u201cPeople have a very clear idea of Morgan,\u201d she said. \u201cIt raises the bar. You\u2019re like, \u2018Okay, I\u2019ve got to really make sure I hit this nail on the head.\u2019 There\u2019s two approaches. The very actor-y one is like, \u2018Fuck what everyone pictures, I\u2019m going to come at it fresh.\u2019 And then there\u2019s the one that I took, which is to torture myself trying to be what everyone else wants for this character.\u201d<\/p>\n She added that learning Hoover had imagined her for the role was \u201cincredibly flattering.\u201d She explained, \u201cI was like, if the author herself can picture me in this part, then I\u2019m coming in with a certain amount of goodwill.\u201d<\/p>\n Of his character Jonah, Franco told Entertainment Weekly, <\/em>\u201cI usually play either villains or very morally corrupt characters, which is also very fun, but it\u2019s nice to play a character that is hopefully a little bit closer to who I am in real life.\u201d<\/p>\n Viotti added that fans of the book will still recognize the heart of Hoover\u2019s story. \u201cWe try to keep as close to the book as possible,\u201d she said. \u201cWe know Colleen Hoover has a strong fan base, and we don\u2019t want to disappoint them.
