As Outkast\u2019s <\/a>\u201cMs. Jackson\u201d celebrates its 25th anniversary on Friday (Oct. 24), Erykah Badu<\/a> revealed her doubts about being the muse behind the Billboard Hot 100<\/a> No. 1 hit.<\/p>\n Badu joined Popcast<\/a> for an interview earlier this week, where she discussed being the subject of hip-hop songs. While the neo-soul icon doesn\u2019t think \u201cMs. Jackson\u201d is about herself, her mother, Kolleen Gipson, certainly is taking credit.<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t think \u2018Ms. Jackson\u2019 was actually about me. I don\u2019t think so, but people say it,\u201d she said. \u201c[My mom] thinks it was about her. She got the bumper sticker and the airbrush t-shirt. I think it says, \u2018Sorry, Ms. Jackson.’\u201d<\/p>\n For years, there\u2019s been fan speculation and theories that \u201cMs. Jackson\u201d was an apology letter from Andr\u00e9 3000<\/a> to Erykah Badu\u2019s family following their split. The former couple dated from 1995 to 1999 and welcomed a son in 1997, Seven Sirius Benjamin.<\/p>\n \u201cMs Jackson\u201d arrived about a year after the Three Stacks-Badu break-up, fueling rumors connecting the track\u2019s content to their relationship. It was the second single on Outkast\u2019s Stankonia album, which was released a week later on Halloween in 2000.<\/p>\n \u201cMs. Jackson\u201d topped the Billboard Hot 100 <\/a>and won a Grammy Award for best rap performance by a duo or a group.
