George Clooney can\u2019t help but think of his \u201cOcean\u2019s\u201d franchise while watching news reports about the Louvre jewel heist<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you\u2019re a professional thief like I am, I was very proud of those guys,\u201d he joked with me Thursday night at the AFI Fest premiere of his latest film, Noah Baumbach\u2019s \u201cJay Kelly.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n Will the now infamous jewel robbery make its way into \u201cOcean\u2019s 14\u201d? \u201cI think we should rob the Louvre,\u201d Clooney said.<\/p>\n Four suspects broke into the Louvre in Paris on Sunday morning and stole eight pieces reported to be worth more than $100 million. Clooney is amazed how the culprits pulled off their caper \u201cin the middle of broad daylight.\u201d<\/p>\n Describing the heist as \u201cterrible,\u201d Clooney said, \u201cI wonder if they\u2019re going to catch these guys. They seem to have done a pretty good job at getting away with it.\u201d<\/p>\n Clooney told E! News<\/a> in early October that \u201cOcean\u2019s 14\u201d is likely going to film next year, with original franchise stars\u00a0Julia Roberts<\/a>,\u00a0Brad Pitt<\/a>, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle expected to return. Variety\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0at the start of this year that \u201cThe Fall Guy\u201d and \u201cBullet Train\u201d filmmaker\u00a0David Leitch<\/a>\u00a0would direct the crime caper sequel.<\/p>\n \u201cThe script is done and we\u2019re in great shape,\u201d Clooney told me at AFI Fest. \u201cIt\u2019s just scheduling now.\u201d<\/p>\n Clooney stars in the Baumbach film as Jay Kelly, an aging movie star contemplating his life choices and his ambition to be famous as he makes his way to Europe to receive a lifetime achievement tribute at a film festival. The cast also includes Adam Sandler as Jay\u2019s manager and Laura Dern as his publicist.<\/p>\n Clooney recalled his early days in Hollywood before he gained worldwide fame for his work on \u201cER.\u201d \u201cI kept banging around \u2014 I did 13 television pilots and some of them were successes like \u2018Roseanne\u2019 and others, but I wasn\u2019t a success on them. And then \u2018ER\u2019 hit and everything changed.
