THE RUNDOWN<\/strong><\/p>\n Jeremy Allen White sings as Bruce Springsteen in Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere<\/em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n The actor had no experience with music when he was cast in the role.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n His voice can be heard throughout the film.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Jeremy Allen White stars as Bruce Springsteen in the new biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere<\/em>, and the actor was so committed to the role he sang The Boss\u2019s biggest hits. Yes, that\u2019s his actual voice.<\/p>\n The film covers Springsteen\u2019s life as he was working on his 1982 album, Nebraska<\/em>. Director Scott Cooper knew Allen did not have musical experience when he was cast, but he still wanted him for the role, Allen told The New York Times<\/em><\/a> in August.<\/p>\n \u201cI think they thought that I could tell a complex story with quiet moments, and with physicality,\u201d White shared, adding that he told Cooper, \u201c\u2018Look, I\u2019d love to do this with you. I love Bruce. Are you sure you don\u2019t want a guy that knows how to do these things already?’ And then, at some point, Scott shared that Bruce wanted me to do it. And at that point I went, \u2018OK, I\u2019m not going to stand in this man\u2019s way.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The film does contain some of Springsteen\u2019s original recordings, per the NYT<\/em>, but White is the one singing when he is performing on camera.<\/p>\n The filmed premiered on October 23 at AFI Fest in Hollywood, and The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> spoke with White\u2019s co-star, Marc Maron, who discussed hearing White sing Springsteen\u2019s songs, saying that it \u201cwas pretty amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cI think he fooled Bruce too, from what I hear. Bruce couldn\u2019t tell on a couple of songs whether it was him or Jeremy\u2014seriously, I\u2019m not making that up. Bruce said that, there you go. I definitely heard that on set, I\u2019m not talking out of school there.\u201d<\/p>\n Cooper also told THR<\/em> about recording with White for the first time.<\/p>\n \u201cIt wasn\u2019t until we got to the RCA very historic recording studio in Nashville, Tennessee that Jeremy started to lay down Bruce\u2019s lyrics that I thought, \u2018My god, this is incredible,’\u201d Cooper shared. \u201cI knew he had been enduring the kind of humbling process of becoming Bruce through vocal lessons and guitar lessons and harmonica lessons and movement lessons, but until you see it you have no idea. It was like I was struck by lightning and it was one of the great experiences of my film career.\u201d<\/p>\n In 2024, White told GQ<\/em><\/a> how he was preparing for the role, saying, \u201cI\u2019ve got a really talented group of people helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready for this thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
