Grupo Frontera, a norte\u00f1o band hailing from the Rio Grande Valley, will make its debut next month on one of country music’s biggest stages.<\/p>\n
The five-member group from Edinburg announced<\/a> it will perform at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry on Nov. 7. Its appearance on the storied stage\u00a0– graced by legends like Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton\u00a0– comes as the band leans into country influences on its latest norte\u00f1o-cumbia album.<\/p>\n Grupo Frontera’s show is one of hundreds of shows throughout 2025 to mark the Grand Ole Opry’s centennial.<\/p>\n The band told Rolling Stone<\/a> that it drew inspiration from country stars George Strait and Morgan Wallen in its most recent album, “<\/em>Jugando a Que No Pasa Nada.” <\/em>On an NPR Tiny Desk<\/a> performance in April, the group played a country edition of \u00a0“Por Qu\u00e9 Ser\u00e1” and even brought out out a pedal steel guitar\u00a0– an instrument commonly associated with American country music.<\/p>\n RELATED:\u00a0<\/strong>How Grupo Frontera went from cover band to Coachella<\/a><\/p>\n The band first formed in 2019, initially playing on weekends at weddings and parties in their hometown roughly 20 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border. At the time, they mostly played cover songs.<\/p>\n Then, the band released a norte\u00f1o version of “No Se Va,” a 2019 single by the Colombian band Morat, in 2022.
