It\u2019s my people,\u201d Siwa said when asked if she’s distancing herself from the LGBT community amid her new relationship, choosing to go by “queer” instead of “lesbian,” and pulling out of a Chicago Pride event in June due to \u201cscheduling conflicts.\u201d<\/p>\n However, she’s felt abandoned herself after going public with her new boyfriend, even making an affectionate red carpet debut on Oct. 21 at the Dancers Against Cancer Gala in Beverly Hills, CA.<\/p>\n \u201cI will always make everyone around me know that they\u2019re accepted for who they are,\u201d she said. \u201cThe people who are criticizing me for saying that I\u2019m moving away from the queer community \u2014 which literally is not possible for me to do \u2014 those people are not doing the same for me.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cNow when I meet somebody that is very clearly a member of the queer community, I almost shell up really quick,\u201d she continued. \u201cI don\u2019t know if they\u2019re going to be kind or if they are going to be ruthless. She’s been an outspoken advocate for gay rights, performing at many Pride events, being honored by GLSEN, and being named West Hollywood\u2019s \u201cNext Gen Pride Icon.\u201d While on Big Brother, she explained that it feels better for her to call herself “queer” now, joking, \u201cF–k the L, I\u2019m going to the Q!\u201d She doesn’t want people to forget her contributions, even as her identity evolves.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that people might be quick to forget \u2014 the way that I came out, the age that I came out.
