A Grammy-winning pop singer is stepping away from performing concerts.<\/p>\n
Nelly Furtado announced that she is taking an indefinite hiatus from the stage after finishing up a tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of her debut album. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have decided to step away from performance for the foreseeable future and pursue some other creative and personal endeavors that I feel would better suit this next phase of my life,\u201d Furtado wrote<\/a>. \u201cI have enjoyed my career immensely, and I still love writing music as I have always seen it as a hobby I was lucky enough to make into a career. I\u2019ll identify as a songwriter forever.\u201d<\/p>\n She shared a photo of herself as a 20-year-old burgeoning star, about to play her first \u201cprofessional gig\u201d at Lilith Fair. She told fans she\u2019s loved to see people continue to \u201cdiscover\u201d her songs years later, including hits \u201cI\u2019m Like a Bird,\u201d \u201cManeater,\u201d \u201cSay It Right,\u201d \u201cTurn Off the Light\u201d and the Timbaland collaborations \u201cPromiscuous\u201d and \u201cGive It to Me.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMy music has reached a whole new generation of fans and I couldn\u2019t be happier about that,\u201d Furtado wrote. \u201cIn the year 2000, I remember feeling purpose in hoping some kid would dust off the Whoa, Nelly! <\/i>vinyl one day in a record shop and think it was cool or inspiring, so I never could have guessed that there would be so many new ways to discover \u2018old\u2019 music in 2025!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTo have so many people rediscovering my music has been surreal and joyful. It\u2019s been so fun embracing this opportunity, getting out on stages again, and seeing up close the true lasting power of good music. It\u2019s made me really believe in magic.\u201d<\/p>\n Furtado, 46, is a Canadian pop singer who has dabbled in a variety of genres, including R&B and Latin music. She won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance with \u201cI\u2019m Like a Bird,\u201d a Latin Grammy Award for her Spanish language album \u201cMi Plan,\u201d 10 Juno Awards, and a star on Canada\u2019s Walk of Fame. <\/p>\n Rolling Stone <\/a>reports she previously took a years-long break from music to focus on being a mother to her three children.
