June Lockhart <\/strong>was known as a beloved mother figure on classic TV shows such as Lassie<\/em> and Lost in Space<\/em>, but in real life, she was a rock and roll goddess\u2014at least according to her TV son, Billy Mumy.<\/strong><\/p>\n In a 2013 interview with the Television Academy Foundation<\/a>, Mumy said of Lockhart, \u201cShe is truly a rock and roll goddess. I swear to God she lives for rock and roll.\u201d<\/p>\n Lockhart, 100, died of natural causes on Oct. 23 at her Santa Monica, California, home, her spokesperson Harlon Ball confirmed to The New York Times<\/a><\/em>. But she left behind a legacy that went way beyond Lassie<\/em>, where she played foster mother Ruth Martin, or Lost in Space<\/em>, where she played biochemist mom, Dr. Maureen Robinson.<\/p>\n In a 1994 interview, Lockhart said, \u201cI can control my reputation, but not my image, because my image is how you see me.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI love rock ‘n’ roll and going to the concerts,\u201d she added, according to celebrity.land<\/a>. \u201cI have driven Army tanks and flown in hot air balloons. And I go plane-gliding – the ones with no motors. I do a lot of things that don’t go with my image.”<\/p>\n Not long before her death, Lockhart told the <\/a>Hartford Courant<\/a><\/em>that she had no professional regrets, but on a personal level, she regretted not ever having the chance to meet rocker David Bowie before he died in 2016.<\/p>\n Lockhart was a huge Bowie fan. \u201cShe was enamored with David Bowie,\u201d Mumy said in a video interview<\/a>. \u201cIn the 80s, she carried a picture of one person in her wallet, and it was David Bowie,\u201d he also confirmed during the Television Academy interview.<\/p>\n Lockhart talked about her love for rock music in an interview with Fox News Digital<\/a> in 2024. \u201cI have been a music fan forever,\u201d the then-99-year-old revealed. \u201cThe Beatles, Stones, Chicago, David Bowie, Huey Lewis and the News, Tina Turner.\u201d<\/p>\n Lockhart revealed she even once hired a rock and roll supergroup to play at her home. \u201cWe threw a Halloween party at my home in the late \u201860s, and I hired a band called Hour Glass,\u201d she added. \u201cThey were fantastic. Truly talented guitars, keyboards and vocals . . . then they changed their name to the Allman Brothers Band.\u201d<\/p>\n Mumy told the outlet that his TV mom gave him a first-hand look at her love for rock music. \u201cShe took me and [Lost in Space<\/em> co-star] Angela Cartwright to the Whisky a Go Go,\u201d he said. \u201cShe got us tickets to see Simon & Garfunkel.
