Anthony Hopkins has tried his best to reconnect<\/a> with his estranged daughter.<\/p>\n

The Oscar-winning actor,<\/a> 87, known for his iconic roles<\/a> in films such as The Silence of the Lambs, The Elephant Man, and The Two Popes has opened up about his relationship with his daughter Abigail in a new interview. Anthony welcomed his daughter with his first wife, Petronella Barker, from whom he split in 1972 when their daughter, who is now 57, was young.<\/p>\n

He and his daughter reconnected in the 1990s, and Abigail even appeared in two of his films<\/a> Shadowlands and Remains of the Day. But they have since grown apart again.<\/p>\n

The actor told The New York Times<\/a>, “My wife, Stella, sent an invitation [to Abigail] to come and see us.<\/p>\n

“Not a word of response. So I think, okay, fine. I wish her well, but I’m not going to waste blood over that. If you want to waste your life being in resentment, fine, go ahead.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When asked if he hopes that Abigail reads his book, We Did OK, Kid, the actor responded, “I’m not going to answer that. No. I don’t care.” The memoir is set for release on November 4.<\/p>\n

Abigail did not follow under her father’s foot steps. Instead, she is a singer-songwriter and has released three albums in the 2000s and a new LP, Stardust, this year.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the The Telegraph<\/a> back in 2006, Abigail said that she was “possibly” open to reconciling with her father. At the time, the pair had not spoken in five years.<\/p>\n

She said, “It would have to be a two-way thing, though. I don’t know how I would feel about it. We have never really been close. We’ve never discussed big life issues. Because, well, our relationship was always so sporadic. I’ve never felt I could discuss those sort of things with him.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
