Reese Witherspoon<\/strong> <\/a>had a special relationship with Diane Keaton<\/strong><\/a> prior to her death at age 79.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe just really took a chance on me,\u201d Witherspoon, 49, told The Times of London <\/i><\/a>in a profile published on Saturday, October 25. \u201cYou never forget those people who give you your first job opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Witherspoon was starting out as an actress, she was cast in the 1991 TV movie Wildflower, <\/i>directed by Keaton.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was just truly original through it all,\u201d Witherspoon recalled of Keaton, further noting that the late icon was like an \u201cauntie to me\u201d during production.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhile the late Diane Keaton was most notably known for her many iconic roles, the famed actress found other, lesser known ways of expressing her creativity. In addition to acting, Keaton \u2014 who died on Saturday, October 11, at age 79 \u2014 was also a director, sitting behind the camera for music videos, movies and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Keaton died on October 11<\/a> after battling bacterial pneumonia and is survived by her two adult children. Shortly after news of Keaton\u2019s death broke, Witherspoon shared her condolences.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to talk to you for one second because, and I\u2019m gonna try to get through this without tearing up, but I don\u2019t know if you guys heard that Diane Keaton passed,\u201d Witherspoon said during her Shine Away panel event<\/a> in Los Angeles. \u201cI had to take a second to just really think about it because when I was 15 years old. Diane was really important \u2014 she was one of my first mentors in this business.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI was 15 years old and I was from Nashville, Tennessee, and I didn\u2019t know anybody and I came on, it was my second, maybe my third movie audition ever, and I auditioned for her and she looked at me after \u2026 and she goes, who are you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Witherspoon introduced herself to Keaton as, \u201cI\u2019m Reese Witherspoon. I\u2019m from Nashville, Tennessee.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said, \u2018Are you making that up? That accent that you\u2019re doing?\u2019\u201d the Morning Show <\/i>star said earlier this month, revealing that Keaton told her, \u201cWell, you\u2019re hired today, tomorrow [and] the next day. I don\u2019t know who you are, but I\u2019m excited to have you.\u201d<\/p>\n

News broke on Saturday, October 11, that Keaton died at age 79 in California. She is survived by daughter Dexter and son Duke, whom she adopted in 1996 and 2001, respectively.
