Kenny Chesney<\/strong> has maintained a surprising amount of privacy in his personal life given his level of fame. However, he is willing to share some details about his romantic pursuits before he hit the big time.<\/p>\n During a Sunday, October 26, interview with CBS Sunday Morning<\/a><\/em>, the country singer, 57, reflected on writing his first song for a classmate he had a crush on when he was a student<\/a> at East Tennessee State University.<\/p>\n \u201cShe sat right beside me. When the two saw each other again the following Tuesday, things didn\u2019t go the way he hoped.<\/p>\n \u201cI came in [like], \u2018OK, this is it,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cShe was sitting as far back in the corner of the room as she could sit.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite his disappointment at the time, Chesney credited the experience with teaching him a valuable lesson for his future career.<\/p>\n \u201cThat was my first taste of rejection in the music business<\/a> and as a songwriter,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut it went from there, yeah. You listen, you read, you observe people\u2019s lives and you try to communicate that.\u201d<\/p>\n Throughout his decades in the spotlight, Chesney has opted to keep his love life relatively private, but his 2005 marriage to Ren\u00e9e Zellweger<\/strong> made headlines after the pair split four months after their May wedding and finalized their annulment that December.<\/p>\n Of his short-lived relationship with Zellweger, 56, Chesney later claimed on The Oprah Winfrey Show<\/a><\/em> in 2010 that he \u201cpanicked\u201d<\/a> because he \u201cwasn\u2019t ready\u201d for marriage.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Zellweger addressed speculation about Chesney\u2019s sexuality after she cited \u201cfraud\u201d as the reason for their annulment.
