Taylor Sheridan<\/a>, the creator of\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> and its spinoffs, is leaving Paramount Network for NBCUniversal<\/a>. This comes at a time when several previously announced Yellowstone<\/em> spinoffs remain in limbo, while three others\u00a0\u2014 The Dutton Ranch<\/em> (working title for the Beth and Rip spinoff<\/a>), Y: Marshals<\/em><\/a>, and\u00a0The Madison<\/em><\/a> \u2014 are actively being made. What does this move mean for the franchise\u2019s future?<\/p>\n Sheridan\u2019s producing partner, David Glasser, and his 101 Studios have also signed a first-look film and TV deal with NBCUniversal. His TV-film deal begins in 2026, after he\u2019s fulfilled his obligations with Paramount. Sheridan\u2019s overall deal with NBCUniversal is a five-year contract, including film, TV, and streaming. It begins on January 1, 2029, after Sheridan\u2019s Paramount overall deal (which goes through 2028) ends.<\/p>\n This is a good sign for the\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em> universe, since it means that there are three more years to produce any shows that are still in the pipeline (Sheridan also created\u00a0Landman<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0Mayor of Kingstown<\/em><\/a>, Tulsa King<\/em><\/a>, and\u00a0Lioness<\/em><\/a> for Paramount). But this new deal doesn\u2019t provide any updates on the previously announced\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em> spinoffs that have gone years without updates \u2014 the 1944<\/em><\/a> prequel seemingly connected to 1884<\/em><\/a> and 1923<\/a>, <\/em>and the 6666<\/em> spinoff<\/a> about the Texan ranch that Jimmy (Jefferson White<\/a>) moves to in\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>.<\/p>\n Sheridan and Glasser are both executive producers on the Beth and Rip spinoff, The Dutton Ranch<\/em>,\u00a0and\u00a0The Madison<\/em> (premiere dates TBA), Y: Marshals<\/em> (premiering in Spring 2026 on CBS, which is part of Paramount Global) through 101 Studios, so that\u2019s part of their preexisting commitments with Paramount.\u00a0The\u00a06666<\/em> series was announced in 2021, and the 1944 <\/em>series was announced in 2023. Outside of Yellowstone\u00a0<\/em>director Christina Voros<\/a> telling TV Insider in December 2024 that Sheridan \u201chas left some doors open\u201d<\/a> for those shows to proceed, there have been no updates on the development of these titles.<\/p>\n Voros said that working with Sheridan, who wrote all of the\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em> shows that have already aired, means knowing that there will be stretches of time without updates, and then Sheridan will reveal he\u2019s ready with a new tale.<\/p>\n \u201cI honestly don\u2019t know how Taylor chooses to tell which stories he chooses to tell when,\u201d Voros said of 6666<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a01944<\/em> when discussing Yellowstone<\/em>\u2018s final season last year. \u201cI think he has closed a lot of doors on\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em> this season. There are obviously characters that we will not see again because they have been dispatched<\/a>. But I think he has left some doors open, and there\u2019s some doors that I can\u2019t tell if they\u2019re locked or not yet. But we will know when we cross through them.\u201d<\/p>\n The short of it is, Sheridan is still working with Paramount through 2028. His production company is still tied to all of the\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em> shows. Even though he\u2019s not serving as showrunner on\u00a0The Dutton Ranch<\/em>,\u00a0Y: Marshals<\/em>, and\u00a0The Madison<\/em> like he did with the previous shows in the universe, he\u2019s still working on them. With other people leading the charge on those three programs, Sheridan theoretically has more time to get to work on 1944<\/em> and\u00a06666<\/em>.<\/p>\n Having this NBCUniversal deal in place means that Sheridan could spend the next few years building a team to take over the creative direction of the\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em> universe over at Paramount, one that can carry on the mantle of his successful franchise.<\/p>\n
