(COLORADO SPRINGS) \u2014 Cinemark is planning to add three rare Imax screens to its theaters across the United States ahead of Christopher Nolan\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d release, and Colorado Springs has been chosen as one of the three.<\/p>\n

According to Variety<\/a>, three Cinemark movie theaters will see the addition of a 70-millimeter Imax screen, a format that is becoming increasingly popular with filmmakers and is fairly rare\u2013only 30 70mm Imax screens exist worldwide.<\/p>\n

70mm Imax uses a film more than double the size of the standard 35mm, which according to IMAX<\/a>, means brighter images with increased resolution, deeper contrast, and the widest range of colors of IMAX capabilities. Nolan\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d is the first theatrical release shot entirely in IMAX film, according to IMAX.<\/p>\n

Only three Cinemark locations in the U.S. will receive the technology: Cinemark Seven Bridges in the\u00a0Woodridge\u00a0suburb of\u00a0Chicago, IL; Cinemark Tinseltown in\u00a0Rochester, NY; and Cinemark Carefree Circle in Colorado Springs. Cinemark only has one 70mm IMAX screen currently, at\u00a0Cinemark Webb Chapel\u00a0in\u00a0Dallas.<\/p>\n

\u201cCinemark expanding its commitment to the very best of what IMAX has to offer \u2014 both IMAX with Laser and IMAX 70mm film \u2014 underscores the value we\u2019re delivering for our exhibition partners in today\u2019s marketplace,\u201d said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. \u201cWith a tremendous slate ahead in 2026 highlighted by a number of Filmed for IMAX and IMAX 70mm film releases, we look forward to working with Cinemark to deliver the most immersive cinematic experiences to its customers and growing the value of our longstanding partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n

IMAX said the theaters receiving the 70mm projection are expected to be operational ahead of the release of \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d which opens July 17, 2026.<\/p>\n
