Despite creating one of rock\u2019s most iconic riffs, Guns N\u2019 Roses guitarist Slash has admitted he initially had doubts about the band\u2019s 1988 hit \u201cSweet Child O\u2019 Mine.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a recent interview with Guitar World <\/a>magazine, the 60-year-old guitarist, whose real name is Saul Hudson, explained his early reluctance toward the song that would become one of the band\u2019s defining singles.<\/p>\n \u201cI have to admit I did have a thing with it,\u201d Slash told Guitar World. \u201cIt was a riff I came up with, and I didn\u2019t know what I was going to do with it. I wasn\u2019t really thinking about it at the time, but it inspired the whole song.\u201d<\/p>\n The guitarist\u2019s hesitation stemmed from the song\u2019s style, which differed from the band\u2019s harder-edged sound. \u201cI always say this, but to me, we were like a Motorhead-type hard rock band, so any kind of ballads were sort of uncharacteristic,\u201d he told the outlet.<\/p>\n Despite his guitar hero reputation on tracks like \u201cNovember Rain\u201d and \u201cWelcome to the Jungle,\u201d Slash revealed that his famous solos weren\u2019t meticulously planned. <\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t remember ever sitting down and figuring any of them out \u2014 especially Jungle,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n After leaving Guns N\u2019 Roses in 1996 due to tensions with frontman Axl Rose, Slash rejoined the band in 2016.
