While talking to NPR<\/a>, Guillermo del Toro made a poignant statement against the use of AI. The incredible director has stated that he’d rather die than use generative AI. While that may seem like an outlandish sentiment, it is one that many in the industry identify with. AI-generated content is easily one of the worst things to happen to his generation. It doesn’t provide any additional value to any medium and can only borrow from other people’s hard-earned work. Nothing AI does is original in any way. It has become a growing indicator of which studios are lazy enough to cut corners and which will stick to traditional methods.<\/p>\n

“The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, ‘What is your stance on AI?’ And my answer was very short. I said, ‘I’d rather die,’ del Toro told NPR.<\/p>\n

Given the scale and reach of Guillermo del Toro’s work, it isn’t surprising that he would have such a staunch stance on artificially generated content. He has created some of the most impressive films on a cinematic scale in movie history, so it’s likely that a lot of AI-generated content is already stealing from his work. Even if it isn’t, AI is only capable of creating an approximation of the amazing creations that Guillermo del Toro makes commonplace in his pieces.<\/p>\n
