I Love LA<\/em><\/a> is HBO<\/a>\u2018s latest addition to the genre of a group of twentysomething friends navigating life and love in a big city. Rachel Sennott<\/a>\u2018s comedy, premiering on Sunday, November 2, will remind you of its HBO predecessors, Girls<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0Sex and the City<\/em><\/a>, and\u00a0Insecure<\/a> <\/em>by nature of the genre, but it shares more DNA with the latter, and not just because Issa Rae<\/a>\u2018s series also takes place in Los Angeles and starts on the main character\u2019s birthday. Both Insecure<\/em> and\u00a0I Love LA\u00a0<\/em>are set in the final years<\/a> of the heroine\u2019s 20s, when she\u2019s making decisions that could impact the rest of her life, including taking stock of her serious romantic relationship. Josh Hutcherson<\/a> plays Sennott\u2019s love interest in this eight-episode first season.<\/p>\n Sennott not only created the show but also serves as writer, executive producer, and star. The Season 1 finale is her directorial debut. The Bottoms<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>star plays Maia, who works as an assistant manager at a talent agency that represents social media influencers. Maia is laser-focused on making a big life for herself, but as she makes her way to 30 post-COVID, she feels like she\u2019s running out of time to succeed, which only feeds her ambition.<\/p>\n On paper, Dylan is Maia\u2019s polar opposite. He\u2019s a middle school Spanish teacher with no interest in a \u201cbig life,\u201d but he cares deeply about his job molding the next generation. He also loves Maia\u2019s ambition and genuinely supports her and her friends, a group that includes celebrity stylist Charlie (Jordan Firstman<\/a>), Hollywood nepo baby Alani (True Whitaker<\/a>), and influencer Tallulah (Odessa A\u2019Zion<\/a>).<\/p>\n Maia and Dylan\u2019s relationship started during COVID, Sennott explains, and it\u2019s at the point where they have to figure out if this is a forever thing. Sennott tells TV Insider why Hutcherson was perfect for Dylan, who executive producer Emma Barrie previously described to us as \u201cthe boyfriend everyone loves.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cJosh is incredible. I\u2019ve been a fan of his since Bridge to Terabithia<\/a><\/em>. I feel like when I met with him on Zoom, I was like, he\u2019s so disarming and charming, and he immediately feels at home,\u201d Sennott shares. \u201cHe is warm and makes you feel comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n She\u2019s excited for people to see more of his comedic chops.<\/p>\n \u201cI think he has amazing comedic instincts. He\u2019s really funny. I\u2019ve seen him in dramatic stuff, but I was blown away by how funny he is,\u201d Sennott says.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s also great with improv, too,\u201d A\u2019Zion adds in their joint interview. \u201cEverybody was so fun and good with improv that it made anything that you thought was going to be like, OK, how am I going to play this? It just all fell together nicely, everybody being able to play.\u201d<\/p>\n I Love LA<\/em> also guest stars Leighton Meester<\/a> as Maia\u2019s boss, Moses Ingram<\/a>,\u00a0Lauren Holt<\/a>,\u00a0Elijah Wood<\/a>, and Quenlin Blackwell<\/a> as themselves, Josh Brener<\/a>,\u00a0Tim Baltz<\/a>,\u00a0Froy Gutierrez<\/a>, and\u00a0Colin Woodell<\/a>.<\/p>\n
