The era of the overshare is back.<\/p>\n
Perfected by forerunners such as Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette, this fall has already seen two music stars gift us with lay-it-all-out-there lyrics.<\/p>\n
The first, of course, was Taylor Swift<\/a>, who earlier this month released a song titled \u201cWood,\u201d<\/a> which was about a lot more<\/a> than trees.<\/p>\n Now, we have been graced with Lily Allen\u2019s<\/a> supremely well-executed fifth studio album \u201cWest End Girl,\u201d her first record in seven years. It is unanimously thought to be an agonizingly detailed reflection on her whirlwind marriage to and apparently grisly breakup with her estranged husband, \u201cStranger Things\u201d actor David Harbour.<\/p>\n celebrity.land has reached out to representatives for both Allen and Harbour for comment.<\/p>\n Aside from brandishing her trademark courage to be fundamentally vulnerable, hurt and pissed (in the American sense) on the record, Allen really<\/em> goes there<\/em> in the seventh track, titled \u201cPussy Palace.\u201d<\/p>\n The song, and the album as a whole, notably doesn\u2019t namecheck Harbour. But it does recount a time after Allen and a partner fought \u2014 and in the song, she brings some personal effects to his apartment since she doesn\u2019t want him in her bed.<\/p>\n Upon arriving, she realizes \u201csomething don\u2019t feel right,\u201d as she sings, because the space she had previously thought was her partner\u2019s \u201cdojo\u201d was actually his \u2026 insert NSFW title of song here.<\/p>\n \u201cSo am I looking at a sex addict?\u201d she asks in the chorus, before launching into an extremely confessional second verse that describes a \u201cshoebox full of handwritten letters, from broken-hearted women wishing you could have been better.\u201d<\/p>\n After detailing a messy scene with \u201csheets pulled off the bed, they\u2019re strewn all on the floor, long black hair, probably from the night before,\u201d Allen sings about a now-infamous \u201cDuane Reade bag\u201d<\/a> with tied handles that\u2019s full of unmentionable intimate objects along with \u201chundreds of Trojans.\u201d<\/p>\n
