Asked if she worried about the \u201creal world consequences\u201d of spoofing \u201cimportant\u201d people while appearing on Monday\u2019s episode<\/a> of Amy Poehler\u2019s<\/a> \u201cGood Hang\u201d podcast, McKinnon said she thought of political satire as a \u201cdouble-edged sword.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI felt like I was really doing something with my life, something meaningful, being engaged in the most peripheral possible way in culture, in history,\u201d she explained, even if it was \u201cjust on the sidelines, putting on a wig.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While McKinnon liked the idea of chronicling history through comedy, she never considered how others thought her impersonations could impact people\u2019s opinions of the real figures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI remember there was one article that was like, \u2018Will she hurt Hillary Clinton?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018God, y\u2019all,\u2019\u201d she said, adding, \u201cShould not have read, should never have looked, but that notion just broke my brain.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cObviously, no one, I think, doing a satire has the power to actually influence, but I did not want to hurt anybody, even people I vehemently disagreed with politically,\u201d said McKinnon, who also imitated Republican Rudy Guiliani during her decade on \u201cSNL<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI still didn\u2019t want to hurt anyone\u2019s feelings,\u201d she continued. \u201cThere was some balancing to do there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
