Jeff Bridges<\/a> says opening weekend grosses are not the final word on the quality of a film.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, the \u201cBig Lebowski<\/a>\u201d star was asked for his thoughts on the growing importance of opening weekends, and some deeming \u201cTron: Ares<\/a>\u201d a disappointment for grossing below debut projections. Bridges<\/a> says it\u2019s \u201cinteresting\u201d how movies are deemed a flop after only one weekend in theaters, and noted his 1980 film \u201cHeaven\u2019s Gate<\/a>\u201d as an example of a film that gained popularity over time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s interesting, though, how movies are received at opening weekend,\u201d Bridges said. \u201cI remember \u2018Heaven\u2019s Gate<\/a>\u2019 was considered, you know, very disappointing or a flop, but nowadays it\u2019s considered kind of a masterpiece.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking from personal experience, Bridges explained that films often \u201cgrow on you,\u201d and that his initial reactions can flip in a matter of weeks or months.<\/p>\n
