King Juan Carlos has shared his opinion of Diana, Princess of
\nWales in a controversial new memoir which is already causing a stir
\nin Spain.<\/p>\n
The former monarch has written of his life and reign in a book
\ncalled \u2018Reconciliation\u2019 and it includes his views on Diana, who he
\nknew well, and who he hosted at his home in Mallorca for summer
\nholidays during her marriage to King Charles.<\/p>\n
The views of Juan Carlos on Diana have surprised many. He calls
\nher \u201dcold\u201d and \u2018aloof\u2019 unless there were paparazzi present.<\/p>\n
The man who ruled Spain for almost forty years says that Diana
\ncould be taciturn and hints that the presence of photographers was
\nwhen she was at her best.<\/p>\n
The relationship between Diana and Juan Carlos came under
\nscrutiny when it was reported that they may have had an affair, a
\nclaim that Juan Carlos denies.<\/p>\n
Diana spent several summer holidays at the Marivent Palace on
\nMallorca with Charles, William and Harry during the 1980s and the
\nphotocalls there became famous events. Some of the best known
\nimages of the princess were taken during those events.<\/p>\n
The book, which hits bookshops in France next week before
\npublication in Spain in the first days of December, also outlines
\nJuan Carlos\u2019 relationship with his son, King Felipe. The former
\nmonarch details the last conversation the two men had before he
\nheaded into exile in 2020.<\/p>\n
Juan Carlos says that Felipe called him as he was already on his
\nway out of Spain and asked him \u201dwhere are you going, boss?\u201d.<\/p>\n
And he hasn\u2019t ruled out coming back to the country he reigned
\nover between 1975 and 2014 when he abdicated in favour of Felipe.
\nIn the book, he says he wants \u201dabove all, to return to Spain, to my
\nhome\u201d.<\/p>\n
He also hasn\u2019t ruled out a stronger bond with Felipe VI who he
\nsays turned his shoulder on him out of obligation. He writes that
\nhe wants \u201da harmonious relationship with my son\u201d.<\/p>\n
Whether a tell all memoir will achieve that remans to be
\nseen.<\/p>\n
